| The Threats to Yorkies Seem Endless...and They're Scary! this might sound crazy, but between hawks and owls snatching them up...big dogs attacking them....freak accidents....sudden death with no previous symptoms...and of course, the dreaded liver shunt or any number of other physical ills...i feel like i'm starting to obsess over lulu's health and safety. the other day she happened to rub her head on the floor while playing around and it sent me on a mad search for information about head pressing. i analyze her every bm as if i'm some scientist. i dole out her food practically piece by piece to make sure it's not too much or too little. i'm always checking her gums to make sure they're nice and pink. and then today......i went to take her outside (on her leash) but saw a huge friggin' hawk and turned back around. has anyone else felt like they were spazzing out this way? surely there are plenty beloved yorkies who live long, healthy lives.....right?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am neurotic over my girls. I have had yorkies for over 35 years and I am still a wreck when any of them seem a little off!! Yes I have had yorkies who lived full lives but have had them grabbed by a bigger dog and other health scares, but I had the same issues with my bigger pom too.

My Westie is, by most standards, a small dog as well. But sturdy . .and does not need so much watching over. I love my Lucy but danger seems everywhere with such a tiny dog! Last edited by Ringo1; 01-27-2010 at 08:27 PM. Reason: forgot | |

YT 2000 Club Member | I am not nearly as crazy when it comes to Prissy, our toy Poodle. However, when it comes to Jasmine, my little angel yorkie girl, well now that is another story. She is my little baby girl. Sometimes DH takes her to work with him and I am on the phone calling him asking him "what is she doing now" "what has she been doing" "when did she eat" blah blah blah blah......I am terrible until she gets back home. I hate leaving her at all. I am always worried about her. Prissy is independent but, Jasmine is very dependent on on me.

| We're going on vacation for 2 weeks soon and the bf's mother offered to take care of him but I turned it down. Their home isn't puppy proof and I'm very careful with what to feed him. When we were there for Christmas, they gave him pork/ham/bones while I wasn't around Left him on the sofa when leaving the room. How could I feel safe to leave my baby there? My bf thinks I'm over protective. I don't want my baby to get hurt! When we first got Sandy, bf fed him a lot of cheese while teaching him so tricks. I warned him but he didn't listen. Poor thing was having diarrhea the next day. People won't understand. They may think I'm crazy but I don't care. |

| Well I fit right in with you ladies I'm very protective of Harley and I guess its just that motherly instinct. I live in a neighborhood on the water with HUGE oak trees. We have eveything around here ~ owls, hawks and racoons. I'm always close by when she's out doing her business because of this. Just this morning, I took her out to go potty one more time before leaving for work and I heard this loud WOOSH sound. I looked up and there were 4 HUGE hawks circling my yard! I immediately picked her up and took her inside and my poor baby was shaking because I know she felt my nervous energy. I calmed her down and went back outside and all 4 of them were perched in a tall, dead tree across the street. Attached is a picture below...mind you I was in my driveway and they looked big from the street so imagine how big they actually are on the ground!! I think they must have been watching her for awhile now and know her routine... it really scares me to think something like that could happen to her. I seriously don't know how I would cope. Best believe I would protect her with my life if I needed too. That's the way it should be, she depends on me to protect her and care for her. I will be switching up the routine from now on so that we're not so predictable. Keep your babies close and don't get too comfortable because sometimes that's when disaster strikes!

| I used to freak out ALL the time about my beloved Stormy(RIP) I was constantly worrying about every little thing, and I have every right to, she was always sick. I made myself sick worrying about her. Unfortunately she passed in July and I have since gotten two healthy yorkies. I don't worry about them nearly as much. I do make sure they are fed properly, their poops okay, they aren't cold or whatever but I don't make myself sick about it. I have a few other pets and a daughter to look after too. |

| OMG , I am glad I am not the only one, I fear everyday that she will get pancreatitis again, or be sick... I used to be so worried I had a hard time enjoying her , I was more worried then happy!
