| Great....I think Sophie is in her 1st heat... I'm pretty sure Sophie (turned 7 months on the 25th) is in her first heat and I had her spay appointment set for Tuesday. I wanted to get it earlier but was trying to wait until I could be able to be off work with her. If anyone can give me more info about the heat cycle, it'd be great. I've searched on YT and found plenty of info, but I just want to make sure. I'm going to call the vet tomorrow and see when he recommends to reschedule. Can anyone tell me if I'm correct in my assumption by looking at her symptoms? I've not seen blood or discharge but the other symptoms seem to match Here's what she's been doing: Licking herself A LOT Very irritable/moody (growling and barking at the cats more, hiding from us some) I read somewhere that her woo-woo should get soft and swell during heat; she hasn't really swollen that I can tell but yes, I checked and it is soft... She's also been urinating more frequently (not to the point of a UTI, but just more) Picky about eating Softer stools, not quite loose as in diarrhea, but just softer than normal So am I right in assuming that she is in her first heat? |

| Just wanted to tell you I can relate to your situation. It sounds like she could be in heat. Have you seen any blood yet? My situations was that we took a stray off the street and decided to adopt her after we could not find the owners. One hour before she was suppose to be spayed, I saw a little blood in her crate. (Never had a dog in heat before, obviously, so really didn't know all the symptoms.) I called the vet and he told me I had to wait 6 weeks. Which we did. But she did lick herself a lot, besides the blood. Hopefully, someone with more experience can help you. Good luck with the situation.

Initially - You have 7 days of coming in, pink and swelling Then - You have a showing of blood 7 days Then - 7 days of coming out, the blood turns lighter. This is when a female will most likely concieve.

| Thanks for the info! I think it is the silent heat. No blood, just the other symptoms. I called the vet and they said it was ok to spay during her heat it just costs $15 extra. He's a wonderful vet and I totally trust him, so I've just got to decide whether or not to go ahead with it. |
