| Is Spaying common in buying a pup? Looking through the wealth of information on the site i've learned alot. Talking with the mrs. about our next yorkie she has said that If we to get another female that she would at least want to option to possible have a litter down the road. My question is this. How common is it to be able to purchase a AKC registered female that doesn't come with a contract stating that the puppy must be spayed. Is it common to have breeders that will allow you to purchase one of their females without having her spayed? I ask simply to know what I'm getting into. Our darling Dixie who passed away a year ago wasn't spayed and we did have a litter with her. She was akc registered and of course the necessary background was done on the stud. I simply ask because I know Dixie wasn't as expensive as some of the females I have seen on the website. |

| Neither of mine had a spay/neuter contract. Alot of breeders do have the spay neuter contracts though. I have seen some though that offer one price if for purchasing the dog under a spay/neuter contract them and a higher price if you get breeding rights

| It's very rare that you will find a breeder that will sell you a breeding female. The reasons are numerous, but I'll list a few. 1. Protecting their lines from getting in the wrong hands. 2. A breeder that does sell you a female with breeding rights, takes on the responsibility of becoming your mentor and being there to assist you and educate you in everything breeding. 3. Breeders that readily sell you dog with breeding rights, without knowing you, usually do not have concern for their dog's welfare, their only concern is $$$$. Keep on asking your questions....I think it's great.

| Thanks for the responses. I know When when my fiance's friend bought Dixie years ago she wasn't spayed and they had no intentions of breeding her but later on decided to. I think my fiance is at least wanting that option and of course trying to be the good fiance that I am I'm trying to get the info and possibly purchase a pup for her since Dixie recently passed away. |

You do have a reputable breeder in LA Cookie Rogan Jo-nan Yorkshire Terriers and a couple in Mississippi.

| Mardelin, Thanks for the great advice. I do plan on getting the best specimin but within reason. This little girl would not be shown and if big IF we were to have a litter it would only be one. Do you have a good listing for the breeders in LA or any good sources in Houston or Chicago that I might be able to find a nice little female that isn't spayed or comes with a spay contract? |

Did you check the breeder referral list on YTCA. Cookie is on there. Plenty in the Houston and Illinois area. I would stick with a breeder close to you, as they will be your mentor. Familiarize yourself with the difference between Backyard Breeders and Reputable breeders, a lot of info on the web explaining the differences.
