| Collapsed trachea... What do I need to do? I took my four year old yorkie, Ernie, to the vet today. Last week he was neutered and every since he has been coughing more than usual, and on top of that he has a respiratory infection. Poor guy! His cough is what has been worrying me because it is like he is gasping for air. So when I took him to the vet today, she told me that it sounded like a collapsed trachea and that when he had his surgery that the tube irritated his throat more. They took xrays and it was confirmed- collapsing trachea. She gave him hard core cough meds and an antibiotic for his infection. What else can we do for him? I feel like I didn't get enough information about this... how long can he live with this? |

| I am so sorry to hear that your little one has also been diagnosed with CT...hugs! If you check out my thread in the Sick/Emergency Forum, you'll find a lot of info and good links to learn more about this condition that affects Toy Breeds such as Yorkies: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...ur-yorkie.html Any of the ladies who've replied to my thread with info about CT are very sweet and can offer you more info, too. Keep us posted on your baby, ok?

| Dogs often have lots of coughing after surgery but if he truly has a ct and had no symptoms before surgery I'd say vet did something he shouldn't have |

| yep this is my guess too I always make sure they use cat tube or even smaller as there are smaller tubes now - sadly you have to ask these things and shouldn't as vets should be familiar with ct in small breeds in my opinion |

| Here is my friends website CollapsingTrachea sorry but i think your vet did this and i would ask them what tube size they used and start questioning them what they did to your dog Did they do an xray to determine it is ct ? They should do that at least for free for firm diagnosis. |

| Of course never use a collar with a CT dog. Also, I would not leave one with a groomer. They are usually not familiar with it and they will use those grooming nooses. Some are not as gentle as they should be and the noose will put way too much pressure on their fragile tracheas. I would read all you can at the links provided and be prepared. Your little one can live just fine with a partially-CT as long as you take precautions.

| about the lazer my vet use on molly. she just said it was something new. she did it for about ten minutes. it doesn`t hurt them at all. it helps get the blood going agin she said. i don`t know if there is a site about it or not. but she said if she has anymore trouble with it an she will use it again on her. so i will see if she has any more more trouble cause it`s been only about three days now. |
