I took my four year old yorkie, Ernie, to the vet today. Last week he was neutered and every since he has been coughing more than usual, and on top of that he has a respiratory infection. Poor guy! His cough is what has been worrying me because it is like he is gasping for air. So when I took him to the vet today, she told me that it sounded like a collapsed trachea and that when he had his surgery that the tube irritated his throat more. They took xrays and it was confirmed- collapsing trachea. She gave him hard core cough meds and an antibiotic for his infection. What else can we do for him? I feel like I didn't get enough information about this... how long can he live with this?
