| Newbie w/questions on topical treatments We acquired a brother and sister Yorkie pair last fall. Our vet placed them on Advantage Multi. This weekend while in the yard the girl picked up a tick in her ear which we discovered after only a short time back in the house. Reading the Advantage Multi packaging and looking at the Bayer website I am led to believe that this product DOES NOT protect against ticks (or ear mites) but it does protect for almost everything else. Here are my questions: 1) Is my girl pup ok or should I take her for blood work to see what, if any damage the tick may have done? 2) What product or combination of products should I be using to protect against all the worms (including heartworm) in addition to fleas AND TICKS. The ticks are bad around our area this year. 3) Is it ok to switch medications or am I better off keeping the Advantage Multi and just supplement it with tick protection? If so, what is a good tick med? Thanks. Last edited by ettev; 06-02-2009 at 04:23 PM. |

| I would call your vet and let them know- see if they want to see her- but many members on here have reported ticks on their pups and dont' seem to call the vet so i'm assuming it is ok? not sure..... I am no help with what you should give as I don't give meds for flea/tick- just heartworm. hopefully someone else will be able to help you out WELCOME to yorkie talk |

| I have the same problem. I use Advantage Multi thinking it covers everything including ticks which is wrong. I'm going to switch to frontline plus and use the heartguard pill. Your lil one should be ok especially if the tick didn't enter the skin.
