| Should I go against the vet? My baby was having diarrhea problems and blood tests results came in...to make a long story short, his lipase count was high, almost double whats its suppose to be. and my vet prescribed viokase along with 2 other intestinal antibiotics along with Hill's Prescription diet I/G this is my problem: is this food okay for my baby? i dont want to sound out of my place because my vet is a real good person, but i just heard a lot of bad things about science diet in general. is there any other options out there? he prescribed me just this one and didnt give me other options. any input would be much appreciated -Tara and Wookie |

| i would go to another vet and get a second opinion. (a holistic vet if you have the funds) my yorkie was on royal canin prescription and i was very unhappy. his coat was dull and the ingredient list wasn't too healthy.

| zit looks like he is treating for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency but wouldn't the lipase more likely be too low if he had that? I'm not sure that high lipase makes sense for EPI. This is the only disease that I know of where viokase is used although there may be a few others. the I/D sometimes is the only thing that will work, so you may want to use it for now but there are other options. Was pancreatitis ruled out with a Spec cPL? The symptoms and lipase number seem to indicate this. A TLI should've been done if the vet thinks it's EPI.

| sorry, i am not quite sure what a TLI is... we had a full panel blood test run on wookie (about 89 dollars) is that what a spec cpl is? are there other food options i can give him? I will check into hollistic vets, i assume they are more expensive? How much more? thank you all for your advice! we welcome any more! Tara and Wookie |

| TLI is a blood test. It stand for trypsin like immunoreactivity. A low TLI is diagnostic for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. A high TLI could mean malnutrition, pancreatitis or renal failure. A high lipase sometimes indicates pancreatitis. A high Spec cPL would be diagnostic for this. It looks like just a blood panel was done. A Spec cPL is different. I'm just not sure why your vet is using viokase without a diagnosis...
