| 4 mths. too young to get neutered? Rosco turned 4mths on May 1st. He weighs 4 pds. He is starting to get a territorial alot with the shuffle of the back legs. I have 2 other yorkies the same age, one male and one female. The other male is laid back, but he still has to get his last series of shots yet. Rosco has his shots. Is it too early to get him fixed and will it help him calm down?

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | not its not too early. he is a good weight and if you think he's developing behavioral problems you do not want then nows the time to take care of it.

| My vet said he likes to wait until 9 months old. I believe the reason he told me was that the urethra becomes more flexible about that age, so they will be less prone to UTI's and if they ever have to pass stones, it will be easier. But that's just precautionary, they can certainly get it done earlier than that. At the shelter i volunteered at, they neutered/spayed very young so the puppies could already be altered before they went to their new homes.

| Well, I decided to get Rosco neutered because of his behavior issues. I felt it was the right thing to do. He is home and doing great.
