My vet said he likes to wait until 9 months old. I believe the reason he told me was that the urethra becomes more flexible about that age, so they will be less prone to UTI's and if they ever have to pass stones, it will be easier. But that's just precautionary, they can certainly get it done earlier than that. At the shelter i volunteered at, they neutered/spayed very young so the puppies could already be altered before they went to their new homes. |
