| my yorkie is taking forever to gain weight hi all- my kingston is about 19 weeks and weighed in at 2.4 pounds at his last vet visit which was this past Saturday. i don't know if i should be worried, because when i got him at 10 weeks, he was 2.2 pounds, but his body was smaller if that makes sense. he definitely got bigger, but he only gained 3.2 ounces in the past 9 weeks since i've had him. is that normal? do any of you own a yorkie that put on weight this slow? i feed my lil guy about 1/4 cup of dry kibble 3 times a day, plus treats but he just doesn't seem to put on any weight. he's also very active and not lethargic at all. i know puppies tend to stop growing at 1 year of age, so i'm hoping he reaches at least 4 pounds. i just wanted to see if any of you have experienced this. thanks

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | What a cutie pie, it took forever for Joey to reach 4 pounds, he had a growth spurt at 7-8 months, so there is lots of variation. It sounds like he's eating well, and doing well. You might try free feeding him, so he can eat whenever he wants, and as much as he wants that day. Joey's breeder recomended this till they are about 8 months old.

it's just so strange for me to see my little yorkie gain weight so slow. i have a bigger yorkie, 12 pounds to be exact. he would put on at least 1 pound a month when i got him. he was supposed to cap off at 5 pounds, but he just kept growing. kingston is supposed to be 5.5-6 pounds, i don't know if he'll ever get there, but we'll see. i would free feed him but i'm not home all day to supervise. it would be tough to potty train him if i were to free feed him and not be home to make sure he pottys in the right area.

| Ryder didn't gain any weight from 8-12 weeks. At twelve weeks, he went from 22 ounces to 24 ounces He's now 2lbs 11oz but I guess had a growth spurt between 8 and 10 months old.

| Hi, Maybe this will help you.....we tend to think of weight as we do in ourselves the problem here is that they are soooo small so for us to gain 3.2 oz is nothing but to them it is huge. A good visual is hamburger meat. Think of what a pound of hamburger meat looks like than imagine that on your puppy it huge. If by chance you have a food scale take the amount gained in hamburger meat and put it on the scale and then look at that as compared to your puppy you will see that it is a decent amount of weight for the amount of time. |

| I wouldn't worry. Sophie was also a very slow grower and she still is. She consistantly gains something everytime we go to the vet even though it may be only an ounce or two. She is now 8 months and exactly 3 lbs. My vet is not concerned about it. Some of these little babies are just smaller than others. As long as he is eating I dont think you need to worry. Good Luck!!

| He certainly looks healthy and is a little doll. JoJo did the same way. He will always be a little thin because he is long but he is very solid. Also, like several others, he really had a growth spurt about 7 months and now at 11 months weighs 4 lbs. As long as your puppy has plenty of energy, bright eyes and a shiny coat, sounds like he is just fine. |
