| sammys front teeth are loose WHY? does anyone on yorkietalk have any ideas why sammys front teeth could be loose. i have brushed his teeth since i got him at 14 months every single night. i have not missed one night, he is now almost 4 yrs old, july 8th. a couple of months ago i noticed when i brushed behind his top front teeth, his gums started to bleed, so i thought i brushed too hard. now the other night i was brushing his teeth and i saw his teeth move. so i moved each one and he has 3 or 4 loose teeth, should i be concerned and take him to the vet, or will they fall out on their own? he has no tarter, no plaque and his teeth are very clean, just a couple of small stains ,but they were there since i got him. was it his diet that made them go loose? i used to feed him homemade cooked food, and now for the past few months i have been feeding raw and honest kitchen. i feel so bad that he has loose teeth at his age .what should i do? thank you |

| wow- that is so unusual that you are brushign and he is loosing his teeth- i would bring him to the vet- i'm not sure much can be done if they are already starting to get loose but i'd still bring him in. |

| I took very good care of Roxy and TJ's teeth too. TJ has perfect white teeth. Summer of 08 I realized that Roxy's front teeth were loose. She had stinky breath, but I assumed that was just her food that she ate. Roxy was 3.5 y/o at the time. Anyway, I had to take her to a special B.Cert Dental Vet bc she has liver issues, and I wanted the best for her. She had a professional cleaning. She had to have her top 2 front teeth removed, her bottom front 2 teeth removed and 1 side chewing tooth. They were infected and the infection was trying to take over more teeth. She still has a couple slightly loose teeth, but the Vet cleared the infection, so hopefully they will be ok for awhile. Also, her teeth are back to looking stained. The Vet said that when she was a baby pup, she may have had a fever and that effects her enamel (can't remember exactly). But my point is, YES he needs to see a Vet and have his teeth professionally cleaned. If there is an infection, he may loose some teeth too Genetics.... Last edited by TLC; 03-29-2009 at 02:18 PM. |

| It could be peridontal disease and dogs can get it who eat mostly kibble. Ellie did and had to have 9 teeth pulled. Her front teeth just started falling out. She had horrible build up though.

| i looked very carefully at sammys teeth and it looks to me that he has no infection, his gums are fine too. the only reason that i noticed his teeth loose was because i was brushing them. i just cant believe this is happening to him, and why. i am worried that something might be wrong with him since this is happening. he does not have bad breath either. along his gum line he has no tarter or plaque. he never ate kibble since i have him, but his old owner gave him low end food till i got him at 14 months. |

| If there is no tartar, it might be something else. Maybe something with the bone? Then again Ellie has periodontal disease and she had osteomyelitis... He does need to see the vet either way.

| The ones that could not be saved had to be pulled out. He did a thorough cleaning and she was on antibiotics for 2 weeks, and pain meds for a day or two |

And some vets try to do extractions and detailed dentals without them. Ellie had bone loss (osteomyelitis) that wasn't visible to us.

| Last month, my sister's little Silky girl was at the Vet bc she had a loose tooth. The Vet and didn't see any tartar or infection, he was able to pull the 2 teeth without putting her under. Then she was on antib's as well, just in case there was an infection. |

| Roxy had xrays - thank goodness, bc her side chewing tooth was abnormal. It didn't grow straight to the bone, it bent kinda funky and there was a huge cyst up in there. We would have never know if it wasn't for the xray. |

| wow, i am still in shock after the other night, i did not think his teeth would have to come out this early in his life. they might have been loose for quite awhile, but i think by us giving him the battery rat, made them looser, if that is possible. he has such rage and violence towards the rat, shakes it violently. he loves plaing withthe rat and now i cant give it to him. i am afraid i will make them come out. |

Don't be afraid of them falling out, if they have to, then there's nothing you can do.... I was fearful of Roxy loosing her fronts, but she still has her fangs and the one that is right in front of each fang. Sometimes her little tongue sticks out, but it did before too! I am much more happy that those bad teeth are out | |
