sterilization operation Mija, my 8 month old yorkie only weighs 1 kg (2.2 lbs). Tomorrow morning she is scheduled for a sterilization operation. Mija almost died when i first got her and everything is starting to finaly go normally. I am worried about her because of her small size and past and I am not sure I should have the operation done. But on the other hand I have herd that not getting the operation can later on lead to cancer. I dont know what to do anymore

| Why did she almost die? Does your vet have extensive experience doing surgery on small animals? Is Isoflurane or Sevoflurane use? Is surgery done on a heated surface? How will she be monitored? Is an IV placed before surgery? Is pre-op blood work going to be done? Has a bile acids test been done?

sterlization operation Hi...I just had my 8 month old yorkie spayed and she weighed 3 lbs. She did very well. She was back to herself within a week. If you have a good vet that knows how to administer anesthesia you should have no problems. My suggestion is if you do not plan to breed her, it is better to have her spayed. Good luck and keep us posted.

When I got her she weighed about 1 lb, obviously she was very tiny. One morning, about 5 days after i got her, she got sick and would not eat. long story short she got dehydrated because of the vomiting and hypoglycemia from not eating. since she was so small she was dying...i took her to the animal hospital and they saved her. Turned out she had caught a virus from contaminated water at the breeders before we got her. Then she had another episode with hypoglycemia and when she got her shot against kennel cough, i guess she didnt get the right does and she caught it. Now she is doing very well and i dont want her to risk her health by having the operation done. The vet said they were comfortable with the operation. I know she will be on a heated surface and that she will have an IV. Blood tests have already been done and everything was fine. I haven't been informed of the other things though...

This morning I went to the vet and told them my concerns and asked more questions. They were 100% confident that everything would go as planned.and that her small size and weight would not be an issue. I just got a call from the vet and she said everything went perfectly fine. Mija is well aware and awake and she will be coming home tomorrow morning <3
