| Just tried Natural Balance Allerge Formula Okay, so I just tried feeding Belle a small amount of Natural Balance's Potato and Duck which is said to be good for allergies which seem to be driving Belle crazy. She was previously eating Nutro Natures Choice and I know it's not a great food I was just putting off the switch because Belle's stomach gets upset very easily. Well, maybe 15 mins ago I put in a SMALL amount of the NB and she LOVED it. She picked around the other kibble and looked at me and whined like "Mommy I want more". I couldn't resist so I gave her a tiny bit more since she seemed so excited eating the NB. I few minutes ago a heard a strange noise and there is Belle eating her thrown up new food. Should I continue feeding her the NB? She seemed to be having trouble chewing the kibble, I guess it was a little harder than her old food. Could this be the reason she threw it up? (it was still chunky)

| If she's that sensitive, you need to slow down. If she gets 30 kibbles of Nutro (thank God you're switching her from that) then I would add 5 kibbles of NB for a few days, then increase to 7 for a couple days, then 10. No, I am not suggesting that you actually count the kibble, but you know what I'm saying. It may take two or so weeks to get her completely off the Nutro. I know how hard it is when they love something new soooo much, but slow is best in her case! How old is she? Does she have food allergies?

| The was 3 months Jan 1 I'm not sure if she has any food allergies..but she gets so frustrated because she is itchy all of the time and her eyes are always really runny so maybe she is allergic to something in her food.

| Well, at three months, it is almost impossible that she would have developed food allergies. I would bet a finger that whatever is bother her is environmental. Also, I sure wouldn't feed the NB Duck and Potato to a puppy, as I don't feel it has the nutition that a tiny pup requires. Look for a high quality puppy food, which will give her all the fat, protein and nutrients she needs to get big and strong, LOL!! Hopefully you got the food from Petco or somewhere you can exchange it?

| She probably just ate it too quickly. If she is really sensitive, I agree with Amanda on gradually switching over her food. That should help with any tummy upset. If she has diarrhea later today, don't be alarmed, just watch her closely for dehydration and let it take its course for a bout or two-this may happen with her eating so much of the new food.

The food said it was for Puppies to Adults so I thought it would be okay. Do you recommend a certain high quality puppy food. The guy at Petco recommended the Nutro stuff so that's what I went with and when I came to YT I found out that it's not great at all.

| I have fed my little one NB ever since he was 10 weeks old...he's 7 months today actually. NB is for puppies to adults and is a good quality of food IMO. I think your little one may have just eaten a bit more than she normally does. You did say she asked for more. Maybe her eyes were bigger than her tummy. Keep an eye on her and see if it continues. But i would definitely gradually introduce the new food to her slowly.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | Yes, please slow the process of changing her way down....as mentioned above. My Magic has a very sensative tummy and any switch we make is always over at least a two week period. I would also suggest you have her eat her portion of the old food first and then at the very end, add in the new food. That way she gets enough of the old in her system. I have found sometimes if they like the new food that much better they will only eat the new food and that causes their tummies to get upset. And no matter how much she protests or begs, resists the temptation to give her more of the new food. I have all of mine on Natural Balance Sweet Potatoe and Fish - another one that is good for allergies. Mine did not have a problem with the bigger pieces - because while they are bigger they are much thinner. You might consider crunching up the new food a little to help slow her down and see if that helps. Hope that helps a little.....good luck finding something that works. One more thing......Natural Balance is a while life food which is good for puppies to adults. That was why I originally selected this food as I needed something for a puppy, a itchy pup and a sensative tummy pup ....and this was recommended.

I really love the nutrition of Innova puppy food. It has something like 28% protein and 16% fat. It has wondeful ingredients with turkey, chicken and chicken meal as the 1st 3 ingredients.

| Thanks you guys I will try to make her eat her old food first then put in the new because she does pick the new out and just sit and whimper at me. I also have a sample of the Ultra Premium Formula...since she was itchy and her eyes are always runny I wanted to try the Allergy Formula but since you guys think the allergies are enviromental instead of a food allergy do you think feeding her the Ultra Premium Formula would be better?

I have allergies myself and have air purifiers in each room plus I use Filtrete furnace filters. It has really helped Lady's allergies, too. | |

Fields everywhere..pesticides..etc. So since it's probably not a food allergy should I notfeed the allergy formula and go with the ultra premium formula?

I would DEFINATELY add in an omega fatty acid supplement, such as Grizzly Salmon oil, which calms the immune response to all sorts of irritants in their little system. However, with her being such a sensitive little tyke, don't start that until well after you have slowly transitioned her to whatever you decide to feed. She's super cute BTW
