| Distilled or Purified Water? I have been reading mixed reviews on what type of water I should give my girls! They have always been getting purified water (by reverse osmosis), is that okay or is distilled better? Some people here have said the distilled water stops the runny eye issue - which Lexus now that she's 2 seems to have. Is this true? Will distilled water stop her eyes from running? |

| I'd keep her on the purified water. Here is some information about drinking distilled: Early Death Comes From Drinking Distilled Water

| I do believe distilled water helps with the tearing eye stains...I don't think it actually stops the eyes from watering though, it just helps with the staining. I have used distilled water in the past, but then I got a water filter and have been using that for about a year. I actually talked to my doctor about any dangers of using distilled water...he simply thought the reasoning behind the "danger" claims were unfounded and complete nonsense...he still drinks distilled water himself today. I don't know, nor do I have the knowledge that he does...scientifically, but doctors do make mistakes too, after all they are only human. The choice is yours.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | We used the distilled water on Joey when he was a puppy. His eyes teared quite a bit and so I tried the distilled water and saw results after about three days, and after the one week I was amazed. We were using it for a while with no tearing, and one day the tears came back. I asked my husband about it, and he admitted he filled the bowl with regular water. It was a miracle he admitted this. Every month or so I would try regular water as a test; and sure enough the tearing would start up again. However, at about 8 months of age, I tried to switch again, and no tearing resulted, and he's been on regular water ever since. Some distilled water isn't safe for drinking, it's only meant to use in steam irons and cleaners, and the plastic they store it in may not be as safe, and there is no guarantee on bacteria amount, because it's not meant for drinking, and has no expiration date. We bought our distilled waster at Walmart, and it is sold in gallon containers, and is meant to be used in baby formula, so I was certain it was safe. It's really cheap too, only $1.00 a gallon. Distilled water has no minerals in it, I'm not sure this is true of water that has been treated with reverse osmosis. Both are purified, but by different methods. Runny eyes can be caused by many different things, allergies are the most common thing, and I don't know why the distilled water worked.
