| HELP...Treat recipes for a puppy with allergies Hi Everyone, Roxi's about 8 months old and ever since we brought her home, she's constantly been scratching herself everywhere and she had become very prone to ear infections. I decided to take her for an allergy test and found out that she has all sorts of allergies. This has caused a complete change in diet and she is doing great. She loves her new food, but shes getting kind of bored with the one treat I have that she is alloud to eat. I'm looking for a recipe that I can make for her, something yummy that she won't be allergic to . Can anyone help??? Below is a list of her allergies and what she can't eat: Beef Lamb Milk Veal Peanuts Buckwheat Triticum spelta Corn Rice Rye Wheat Banana Red Dye Out of this list the things that she is most allergic to are Wheat, Corn, Beef & Rice. Any help would be REALLY appreciated!!! Thanks All

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Wow, poor thing, that's a big list. It doesn't look like there is any grain product you can use, and that's needed if you are to bake a treat. I make Joey a treat with beef liver that he loves, and I was wondering if you could substitute chicken or another meat. Basically, you boil the meat for 30 minutes and cut into small half inch squares, and bake in a 200 decree oven till dry, this could be as long as an hour. I keep them in the freezer with just a week or two worth in refrigerator, but they are almost like jerky so I don't think they would spoil easily if you dry them long enough. Joey loves the beef, and I think this would work with chicken as well. Also Joey loves the petite green beans, the frozen variety, and I'm told many like peas as well. Carrots are another popular treat, and even dogs who are allergic to milk, can sometimes eat unsweetened yogurt.

| Thanks for the suggestion! I'm going to try that with some chicken livers tonight and see how she likes it. She used to love beef liver treats and yorkie yummies were a staple in our house I'm trying to find something like those for her now. I'll let you know what she thinks

I'm sure she'll love the chicken livers, but it seems like you can't give them too much as a treat. I can't remember the details, but chicken liver is different than beef liver, as far as being good for you, and you might want to check and see if it might be too rich. I know it's high in cholesterol. You might want to do a search in the diet forum.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Oh I didn't think about potatoes, you could use potatoes as a "flour," if you are interested in making your own treat. I would use the instant, and you could add eggs and some type of fruit, applesauce for example, and grated carrots. You don't need to add sugar, salt, or fats when making most treats. Eggs already have a little fat in the yoke, and applesauce can replace the fats in many recipes. Just experiment with different combinations. Potatoes with a little chicken liver might be tasty. Chicken liver can add lots of flavor with just a small amount. Adding chicken broth that is unsalted and fat free would be another way to introduce flavor while still keeping it healthy. Then just bake it as you would a cookie, maybe even adding oatmeal. Actually oatmeal, eggs, applesauce, and cinnamon could make a tasty treat. Again, bake as you would a cookie.
