| Please help? Does anyone know if FRONTLINE can cure sarcoptic mange?? Its a long, painful story, but has anyone's vet advised this as a remedy? I'm aware of Ivectin (sp?), but haven't had a confirmed diagnosis...my vet is convinced its allergies, I'm not! Appointment w/ derm on Tuesday (that was the first available). In the meantime, I applied the Frontline to hopefully help. Pamphlet says "aids in the control of sarcoptic mange". What does that mean exactly?? Vet says it will cure if that really what my POOR itching baby has. Anyone, please advise...thanks! We are miserable! |

| We are on our 2nd round of antibiotics, 2 skin scrapes later, steroids too and it only seems to be getting worse. I feel like we've wasted so much time guessing, that its progressed big time. I've now read 80 different websites about sarcoptic mange bc I'm convinced that is what he has. he is showing all the classic signs I've read about. Just recently, he developed the ears and face and his tummy is covered in small red bumps AND he is scratching like crazy..we switched from childrens benadryl to zyrtec and it helps for a couple of hours but not much. Sorry, is my vet an idiot for telling me if its sarcoptic mange, "it'll get it"?? I just want to cry, I feel so bad for him...sorry so long winded. |

| What are you feeding him? I'd highly advise a single source of meat protein and no grains whatsoever.

Sarcoptic mange is usually carried by fox, raccoons...did they do a skin scraping and a DTM? ( DTM- I forget what its called, but they will pluck some hair from the infected areas, but it on a gel, and incubate it, after 2 weeks if there is color change or growth, will help the vet know whats going on) It is very hard to figure out if it is mange, we always just had those dogs go on revolution and off heartworm since revolution does both and they would apply it every 2 weeks, its sorta odd. How old is your dog?! I was always told that after a year old is when any type of allergies usually show up, but i dont believe that. Im dealing with fleas with my girl and i cry all the time cuz im so upset about it....just be patient!

| He's 5 years old and this is the first health concern I've ever had..I guess we're making up for lost time bc I am such a mess! No, no test pulling hair, maybe the derm will do that? I feed him chicken and rice on an almost daily basis and he also has Iams. The reason I suspect mange is bc I read that fox are a major carrier...we've had 2 of the roaming my neighboorhood, so often my neighbor downstairs put out a scarecrow. I have never seen them that close, but she did and so did another neighboor I talked to! He pees on the bushes right there especially if its late. |

| I don't know if any of the things you're feeding could be causing these problems. Hopefully someone else who is better educated can help you.
