| barking-barking-barking hi everyone. i have been very busy lately and have not had a chance to check in and see how all of our dear babies are doing. i have a question about what to do with my sammy. when i am home he will bark at the birds in the yard, people a block away in their own yards and please dont let anyone walk by the house. my neighbors tell me he does not do any of this when i am at work, so it must be that he is protecting me when i am home. does anyone else have this problem and what are you doing about it. i have tried saying '' no barking '' when he starts in and taking him in the house but he just goes to the window and keeps on doing his thing. i dont want to close up the house so he cant see out or not let him be out ( which he loves ) but i am at my wits end. please help.

| When I was having this problem with Daisy (she still barks some) I looked into collars that let off a sound that was irritating to a dog, when they bark. I found them on ebay. I've also heard of putting coins in a can and shaking them when they bark. Basically any sound they don't like, they will start to associate with the barking and hopefully stop. All the best, Tammy

| Redirecting the action you don't want. We have even used water bottles. Then when you say no bark, pick up the spray bottle they don't bark, you don't even have to use it. Shaking the coins in a can is redirecting the head to something else.

| i think most of us have the same problem.. dogs bark and thats what they do . lexi barks at birds, motorcycycles, buses, mainly loud things. people with bags in their hand, people sweeping, she hates brooms, sometimes its a protective thing, but most of the time, its just them being dogs.. you can maybe stop it for a second, but it always happens the next second

| thanks everyone for the great tips. i am going to try the coins in a can. he is just a puppy and i hope to stop the barking habit early . he does let me brush his teeth with no problem though. in the morning he loves to get his hair brushed and his teeth done. i read here from someone else that just the chewing they do on the bristles will do a better job than nothing at all, but sammy actually lets me get in there and gently brush his teeth. they are sparking white and he has a great smile .

| Syd barks at anything, everything, and all the time. The coins in the can works for us too. |
