| vet confused me I took Alastor to the vet yesterday to get his rabies shot. The vet weighed him and he still only weighs 2.8lbs. Alastor is a bit on the thin side because he hates to eat, but not unhealthily so. I asked her advice about fattening her him up, and she told me that I should give him whatever food he wants, even if it's only people food. Alstor REALLY wants pizza but I haven't given any to him, but he has NO interest in meat, wet food etc. I am still determined to only feed him dog food however. She then said that Allie should weigh about 2lbs more right now, however other yorkie people have told me that although he is a tad thin, yorkies are commonly that thin. A friend of mine has a 2yr old just as thin yet her vet says she is fine. I was wondering if my boy should really be 2lbs heavier right now, or if my vet is confused. Alastor is 8 inches tall and weighs 2lbs 8 oz, his leg bones are thinner than a pencil, and I can feel a thin layer of meat on his ribs. He has energy, is spunky and happy, and has no interest in eating. His parents are 5lbs and 3 1/2lbs and the dad is about the same size as Alastor is. Is he really that underweight that I should use any means possible to pork him up? She also volunteered that he should be a bit over 7lbs when he is full grown. I am just thoroughly confused. Is Alastor half starved, or is my vet mistaken?

| Well, vets aren't breed specialists. As time goes along, you will learn that. No table food. I bake trimmed white chicken breast to give mine along with her Natural Balance Ultra Premium doggie food. No table food because you don't want to give your yorkie pancreatitis and they are highly susceptible to pancreatitis. Pizza is the worst thing you could give him, so follow your instincts in not following her advice.

| It sounds like alastor is just going to be a smaller yorkies. The parents are both small and his weight will probably be close to theirs. Some people including me do feed people food but t is healthy people food not table scraps you definitely dont want to feed that. Also when you home cook you have to suppliment because they dont get all the minerals they need out of people food. Vets arent always experts on breeds

| People food is good table scraps are not....Giving pizza to a yorkie would probably cause a pancreatic attack and could be dangerous. It is way too fatty. There are many types of people food that you can give. Avoid anything fatty. No skin (chicken/turkey), no raisins, no grapes, no onions, nothing that's seasoned or salty, etc.

| I learned very quickly that vets do not always know whats best for all breeds, some vet dont treat or know much about small breeds.

| Puppies are on the thin side . However, I would encourage your little guy to eat. I would experiment. I belive the vet is concerned because if he get sick then he is not going to have enough reserves in his body to fight off illness. Have you tried supplementing a high quality puppy canned food? There are YT members on here who know very good people foods for Yorkies. Not greasy food though. That is bad for dogs. I mixed white chicken meat in with canned food for Suzi, she ate pretty well. Your pup does not like chicken? w/o the skin it can be given. i believe cheese, cottage cheese is ok to give, but, not too much. Keep trying to find foods that he enjoys. Little Yorkies are known to be picky eaters. He sounds so adorable I am assuming he is at least four months? He is going to be just a little dog full grown. My Yorkie pup is nearly 4 months old and weighs 4.12 oz . Sizes vary considerably.
