vet confused me I took Alastor to the vet yesterday to get his rabies shot. The vet weighed him and he still only weighs 2.8lbs. Alastor is a bit on the thin side because he hates to eat, but not unhealthily so. I asked her advice about fattening her him up, and she told me that I should give him whatever food he wants, even if it's only people food. Alstor REALLY wants pizza but I haven't given any to him, but he has NO interest in meat, wet food etc. I am still determined to only feed him dog food however.
She then said that Allie should weigh about 2lbs more right now, however other yorkie people have told me that although he is a tad thin, yorkies are commonly that thin. A friend of mine has a 2yr old just as thin yet her vet says she is fine. I was wondering if my boy should really be 2lbs heavier right now, or if my vet is confused. Alastor is 8 inches tall and weighs 2lbs 8 oz, his leg bones are thinner than a pencil, and I can feel a thin layer of meat on his ribs. He has energy, is spunky and happy, and has no interest in eating. His parents are 5lbs and 3 1/2lbs and the dad is about the same size as Alastor is. Is he really that underweight that I should use any means possible to pork him up? She also volunteered that he should be a bit over 7lbs when he is full grown. I am just thoroughly confused. Is Alastor half starved, or is my vet mistaken?
