| FDA announcement on Evanger's I was sent this on another list. FDA Orders Pet Food Maker to Obtain Emergency Operating Permit Please cross-post: Evanger's, who also packs for By Nature, Felidae and Artemis, has had problems with the processing of the foods and there's been considerable bad bacteria found in the foods and grain hulls being found in the By Nature Organics "grainless" foods. Nutro products are also causing ongoing vomiting in pets. | Great... I just bought some. I think the botulism symptoms show up right away, correct? I rotate brands all the time. We will stick with NV for now. Thanks!

| I see no mention of dry food ,, only canned,,,, quoting below,,, FDA Orders Pet Food Maker to Obtain Emergency Operating Permit The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued an order requiring that Evanger's Dog & Cat Food Co., Inc., in Wheeling, Ill., obtain an emergency permit from the FDA before its canned pet food products enter interstate commerce. A recent inspection revealed significant deviations from prescribed documentation of processes, equipment, and recordkeeping in the production of the company's thermally processed low acid canned food (LACF) products. These problems could result in under-processed pet foods, which can allow the survival and growth of Clostridium botulinum (C. botulinum), a bacterium that causes botulism in some animals as well as in humans.

| This is only referring to canned food. Evangers is a cannery. Canidae dry would not be affected in any way - botulism is something seen in canned food. I work at a school and we get all the recall faxes from the health dept and they just recalled canned peas or green beans or something. I'm concerned because I do feed Evangers canned, I just did yesterday in fact. I rotate canned foods all the time and I just happened to grab the Evangers. They are a REALLY good company and were just featured on Rachael Ray... I wonder if the MSM has picked this up yet? I googled it and symptoms are weakness and inability to stand. It said your dog would be alert and wagging his tail but unable to get up. I just emailed my husband to keep a close eye on the doggies today...

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | WOW. I'm going to leave this in GENERAL for awhile so it gets viewed - then I'll move it to Health and Diet so that it stays near the top.

| Was it for a specific time period or have they been doing it unsafely for awhile? I have about 10 cans left of the dozen they sent me last year when I asked for a sample. I wonder if those are affected also? Guess I had better throw them out just to be sure. Botulism is nothing to fool around with.

| Now I am hearing through the grapevine that is it strictly a paperwork issue. I think I'll set the cans I have aside for now though. No sense risking it when I have other brands I can give them for now. Evangers is a good company. This isn't like a menu foods thing. If there is a problem I'm confident they will address it.

| Deanna, Thanks for posting this info. My girls have been eating Evanger's canned for a long time, but I just sent hubby to return a case of it. I'm not taking any chances. I'm fed up with the pet food industry! Sheila |
