Donating YT 11K Club Member | What is quarantine? If they keep them for so long where do they stay, in cages? Do they feed them, etc. How does that work? Can you visit them?

| It depends on the country...some are in home quarantine. Others are in a vet/kennel facility that monitors the animals and maintains them...but they are in just that quarantine...no visiting

| There is no longer a quarantine in Hawaii for dogs. My dad lives there, I've got friends who take their dogs there all the time. They DO have to have SPECIFIC tests and vaccinations done and all that by a certain time before you go though, so make sure you check what all is needed. I don't remember off the top of my head, but I did find the info on the internet. They CANNOT fly in cabin on the WAY TO Hawaii; they must go in cargo. They CAN fly in cabin on the way home though. I'm waiting for them to change THAT, b/c there's NO WAY Max is leaving my sight. I'll look around and see if I can find where I found the info on what all you need and when and post it here for you. I wish I were going over there!

| In Hawaii, they used to make you either quarantine them at a state quarantine station or else you could make arrangements for them to be quanantined at your (or a) vet's. While they were at the vet's (my dad and stepmom have lived there forever and have had several cats), they could go visit them, but they usually do the feeding since they have their own work schedules. For awhile, they all had to be quarantined in Honolulu, but they relaxed that, and now they can be in home, providing they have all the necessary vaccinations, heartworm, flea preventative, etc....If they're coming from some other countries other than the US, I imagine it depends on where and what things they're exposed to. I know my dad and stepmom just bought 2 cats from Australia and they didn't need anything special.
