In Hawaii, they used to make you either quarantine them at a state quarantine station or else you could make arrangements for them to be quanantined at your (or a) vet's. While they were at the vet's (my dad and stepmom have lived there forever and have had several cats), they could go visit them, but they usually do the feeding since they have their own work schedules. For awhile, they all had to be quarantined in Honolulu, but they relaxed that, and now they can be in home, providing they have all the necessary vaccinations, heartworm, flea preventative, etc....If they're coming from some other countries other than the US, I imagine it depends on where and what things they're exposed to. I know my dad and stepmom just bought 2 cats from Australia and they didn't need anything special.
