| Help... about 2 weeks ago my baby yorkie was running very quickly and chasing after his older sister. Before he knew it he was stopped by a big pole where he infact tumbled over and hit his face. 3 days after he began developing a small edematous bump under his right eye. I was putting ice on it and it just seemed to drain a mix between thick light reddish discharge which after helping the area drain it became watery. I washed the area and applied an antibiotic ointment and a bit of neosporin. I gave him a little piece of baby asprin for any residual pain. That was about 3 days ago since all this happened and a few minutes ago I saw the swelling return and again I placed ice on it and it began to drain.... Has anyone ever seen this? Is it possible that dogs can obtain MRSA? he does not seem to be in pain or discomfort... he plays, eats and sleeps well... no bowel movement changes or loss of weight or appetite... Could this just be a reaction to the bruise that he got? If anyone can help me understand this matter, I would greatly appreciate it. Thought I would ask around before I went to the vet and paid $300 for them to say to me that it is just a bruise that he will soon get over. I will take him if I see this swelling persist after this weekend. I just hope someone can tell me if this has ever happened to anyone before. Thank you |

| Sounds like he'll be Ok but I think a trip to the vet will set your mind at ease. |

| I think a trip to the vet is in order...before the weekend. If there is that much damage on the outside you don't know what could be going on inside. Even if the vet says it is just a bruise at least you will know for sure. |

| I would not give any more aspirin to him. It thins the blood and can make healing bruises take longer. What made you think of MRSA? Yes, pets can contract MRSA if someone in your home has it.

| I would see a vet before the weekend. It seems like around here anyway, things always happen or get worse on the weekend and then we have the ER charge. Good luck. Hope you baby gets well soon.

| Thank you!! Yes I decided to take my baby to the vet tomorrow morning. Did not feel comfortable waiting till Monday. Thanks to all for the advice and suggestions. The only reason why I thought of MRSA is because I have seen only people with it. I have never had this or anyone in my family, but I do work in the hospital and have treated patients for drainage whom have had MRSA. You never know... with gloves and all sorts of protection I thought that I may have carried something home and since they are always jumping all over me with such excitement as soon as I get home I figured I may have transferred debris or some shedding...???? Hopefully all will be okay and tomorrow after we come back from the vet I will post a note letting all of you know what can be the cause of his irritation! Thanks to all once again |
