| I'm worried that Chel isn't going poop enough Chelsea only goes poop in the mornings which is soild, mainly dark which is hard to find in the dark (turn lights on) I'm feeding Chelsea homemade food, which I boil chicken with vegetables with little brown rice or beef with vegetable little white potatoes or sweet potatoes with granny apples & little brown sugar absolutely no spices. In mornings she get teaspoon for egg, and maybe a teaspoon sweeten cooked oatmeal favored which she loves. She’s energetic full of play, her poop is dark brown to black no smell and firm. Reading Yorkietalk is sounds like maybe Chelsea should be going poop a little more. I’ve tried her on dog food, Innova (bad food I hear), too no avail, her poop did smell and it was tough getting her to eat it. I sure hope that’s ok and I’m not going to have problems with her in later years.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sounds pretty yummy! Well, how is her weight/ribs/overall health? You can tell alot about weight if you feel their ribs (shouldn't be too prominent or too "buried"). With homecooking, you must supplement w/ calcium and balance the cal/phos ratio - you're probably already doing that. I mean, most dogs poo twice a day, but I suppose some may poop just once for some reason. You could get some blood work done at the vet, I know some homecookers do that once a year. If she "feels" skinny, I would maybe increase the protein volume - if it were me. Remember, that kibble is condensed - so if, let's say, you feed 1/4 c. kibble - you have to feed alot more volume of "real" food (typically, that is) bc it's not all condensed/processed down. Raw can be the opposite (feed less than you think sometimes). Sometimes for things like this, I think in human terms - like if someone's digestion really slowed down - I'd wonder if their metabolism slowed down bc they weren't getting enough calories - soooo, increasing her calories might be something to consider.

| No worries. Pooping once a day can be very normal. Ellie usually only goes once. It has been like that for a few years. I recently increased her calories and she goes once or twice now. She used to eat about 1/2 cup of dog food and she eats right around 3/4 cup homecooked. Her diet is around 18% fat. If I didn't add oil she would probably need a larger amount of food.
