| help Hi, I'm a newbie here. I have couple of questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My lil yorkie boy coming home in a couple of weeks. What should I feed him? Any brand of pet food? Shampoo? Is it necessary to dock the tails or ears???? And also how big you thing he would be @ full grown if his mom is 9-10 lbs (owner fed her human food as well) and the dad is 5 lbs???? Just want to make sure I have everything before he comes home. Thanks. Take care P.s. We will be naming him Logan! |

| Yorkies tails are usually docked when they are a few days old. Nothing is done to their ears. As far as food I would do a search on here about food because there are many good brands. I use Minksheen shampoo and I am going to put a link to it. He will probably be 5-10 lbs http://www.touchofmink.com/prod_details.asp?id=15

| Pet Food Hi! I'm new to the YT too! I have had my yorkies for a couple of years now, and I absolutely love nutro natural choice puppy formula with chicken and oatmeal. My girls have wonderful shiny coats and clean white teeth. Brushing with dog toothpaste and having chewies available helps their teeth as well. Good luck with your new baby! Roxie and Sasha's mommy |

| The tails are docked within the first week after the pup is born, so you won't have to worry about that. On pups I use a J&J baby shampoo--just make sure when you bathe you keep the little one warm. As far as food, start out by keeping the pup on whatever food it is accustomed to eating with the breeder until the ajustment period in you home is over. In the meantime, research what food you feel is best and then gradually swap over. Congrats on the new addition! |

| His tail should have already been docked a couple days after he was born. Yorkies do not have their ears cropped. They should stand up on their own anywhere between 6 weeks and 4 months (but they can go up and down while the puppy is teething). So far as size, there are a lot of factors. The mom is larger than the standard calls for so he very well might be on the larger size as well. But the parents' weight alone doesn't determine how big the puppy will get. You have to look at the size of the grandparents and dogs further back in the puppy's pedigree as well. Sometimes a good estimate of adult size is to triple the weight at 8 weeks or to double it at 12 weeks. My Lacy was a little over 3 lbs at 12 weeks and is 7lbs full grown. Food: I think a raw diet is the best way to feed most dogs. I feed pre-packaged raw (Nature's Variety) but others on here mix their own raw. Homecooking is the second best choice - there are several people on here that homecook and could give you some good recipes to start off with. With raw and homecooking, you just need to make sure you are feeding the right things and giving him a balanced diet. If you want to stay with commercial food - Premium canned food is better than dry as it is less processed and has moisture that they need. I prefer grain-free. There are also some good kibbles out there. Some good brands of canned and kibble are Nature's Variety, Innova, Evo, California Natural, Wellness, Canidae, Merrick, as well as others. Stay away from foods sold in grocery stores and places like Walmart. Good Luck with your new puppy
