| Give me the "skinny" on bully sticks... Ok questions....We are relatively new to "bully sticks". Are they fatting for our furbabies? How many per week is it ok for them to eat? Please give me your honest opinions. Moose can eat a 6 inch one in one day (if I let him ). He begs for them. He know where I keep them and he goes to the cupboard and jumps up at the cupboard. I have been buying the 12 inch ones and I try and make them last 3 days. It usually only last 2 days. I wonder are these like candy for kids? Are they empty calories or good calories?

| I get Chip the bag of bully bites, they are the scrap pieces from making the sticks. Its around $20 but there is alot in there, the pieces are 3" or less. Bully sticks are not a fatty treat, easily digestible for some, and good for helping clean their teeth. I give a piece to Chip almost everyday and he hasn't had any problems with it. I also get the free range odor free, they don't have that icky smoked smell that also can stain your flooring.

| We always get the lighter colored ones that are not as smelly and do not have the smokey flavorings. Mojo will carry his around for days, but Lily will chew hers in one day. As far as fattening?? I have no clue? I know they are all natural, dried beef tendon...and are digestable.

| All of you are such nice, understanding Yorkie parents. Ellie isn't allowed to have them because I got grossed out when I found out what they are.

| Bully Sticks are 96% protein and about 1% fat. They are extremely healthy assuming you buy the all natural kind with no additives. I'm not a fan of the "free range" ones because they are not USDA. Plus, I've heard they add bleach to make them "no-odor", but instead I think they have a funky non-beef odor. I'm trying to confirm the bleach thing, but I have purchased them to try and I think they smell funny. The high quality ones (as in, not from Petsmart) tend to have just a mild beef jerky smell that doesn't stink up the whole room.

| I don't really have any clue what the nutritional content is in them, although I do know what they are. I just had a question and thought this would be a good place to add it, hope you don't mind my hi jacking your post I bought some for Bella because of how much I hear that they all love them so much, she has had the same one in her "play area" for going on about 4 weeks now. Do they go bad or is it ok to leave it there? She doesn't really seem to be a big chewer

Yuck! This is from Wikipedia: A bully stick, also known as a beef stick or a pizzle, is a dog treat made from a dried bull's penis. The penis, usually measuring about 24 inches in length, is removed and cut into sections. The sections are then dried and are sold as a dog treat. Furthermore, since the bully stick is pure beef, it is 100% digestible. This is contrary to rawhide chews, which have been reported to choke or obstruct a dog's bowel if large pieces are swallowed. | |
