| Trimming ears? Lily has never had a grooming yet, she is alomost 8 months now. Her hair is still not very long, but her ear hair is. Is there a way I could trim her ear hair only myself? I have heard if it gets too long her ears will droop, I don't want this to happen and I don't plan on getting her groomed til her hair is longer all over. How do you trim the ear hair? Any one with pictures of how to do it or how they should look after trimmed would sure help. Also what do I use, can I use the dog scissors I already have? I use these to trim around her and my poms tooshy. Thanks everyone.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I bought these trimmers called Just a Trim on sale for 5.00, they were also advertised on TV. There for humans, but they are much quieter and easy to use on their ears. I just trimed Cali's with them 5 minutes ago and she sat still the whole time.

| All I can say is be careful. I was trimming Joey's ears and before I knew it he moved and I cut his little ear. He bleed alot and I was scared. Flour is what I used to pack around the cut to get the breeding to stop. That worked until he shook his head! Could you just take your baby to the groomer and ask them to do the ears only? |

| I just did my little guys ears a few days ago- they were floppy before but stood right up after that! I used little manicure scissors because I was very afraid to cut him, and you don't know how they will react the first time. I cut it short on the top 1/3 of his ear, then just trimmed the sides and the rest to make it look neat. He was very good and still, probably because they don't make the noise clippers do. I used my fingers as a guide, and also for safety: if anyone was going to get cut, I wanted it to be me. I think they turned out nice I need to upload my pics on to my computer (I was planning on posting some to brag about his ears coming up anyway ) so if you want to look at what I did, I'll try to get them posted asap. |

| Best trimmers you can buy for trimming is the Peanut by Wahl. You can buy them at Sally's Cut a 1/3 down but in a V shape from the center outward. Hold your index finger behind the ear for support.

| They do sell clippers at WalMart - I think I got mine for around $20-30, and they work alright. I'm not a pro, so we're still adjusting to them, but they do cut and do a good job.

| I would take Mardelin's advice. I was trying to use those little inexpensive people trimmers and it just was not working for me. Mardelin suggested getting the Wahl Peanut and what a difference that made! I can make two nice passes per side and the ear is done. I shaved both front and back on my girl Sadie's ears as they were not standing completely. I ony tip the top third of Ben's ears as his were standing fine when I got him and I just want to keep them that way. Want something to chuckle at -- First time I took my first Yorkie to the groomer's, she asked if I wanted her ears tipped. I said, NO! Why would anyone want to cut the ears on a Yorkie, I wondered. How horrible! It took about three times of me turning down the "tipping" with a look of horror before she explained to me that tipping was cutting the hair and not the ear. Oh...........

I've been looking for a Peanut and can't find one... OK, I just found some on e-bay... how much should I pay? Most of them are around $34.00 or so. They have a cute "pink cancer" one... Last edited by omega; 01-21-2007 at 07:40 PM. | |
