| Guilty! Since baby was born (almost 5 months now) I'm so guilty of failing at grooming the dogs myself. I have a crisis on my hands, despite continually (at shamefully intervals) baths and brushing both my fully bearded babies (Elvis and Princess) have mini mattes in their beards. I guess I brushed them in a lazy hurry because the mattes are right at the skin tiny (under their chins and just at the underside of the top lip). I can't shave them there and using the Madan beard brush is really hard even with WEN left in and I'm trying olive oil but it's still is harsh on them. Poor Elvis I removed two of his three mattes by separating and carefully brushing them out hair by hair but he was sooo annoyed with me giving me dirty looks the whole time. Is there any magic matte remover short of scissors?

| Oh geez, I didn't even know they would get matts there..hmmm. I don't have any tips, but I sure how someone pops on that can help.

| I used to keep one of these combs on hand when I kept Cricket in full coat. It works well on matts, but I am not sure if it will work on matts real close to the skin. Amazon.com: Dog Grooming Dematting Comb w/9...

My furkids Donating Member | my little Lillie "had" a beautiful long coat...because of brushing issues with her I clipped her with a 1 in clipper...I also clipped around her face...she also gets matted on her mustache. I cut into the matt then brush, until she acts like a wild woman...are they to close to cut into them? maybe a seam ripper would work...providing he doesn't wiggle alot.. don't want to pick him..

| They are tiny and yes right against the skin, all my recent grooming's have been rushed and in all honest half-a$$ed because of my full plate. So when I brushed the top of the hair looked great but I obviously wasn't being thorough enough. Elvis has a very curly cottony coat & Princess is a "mega coat" miniature schnauzer. During the humid summers here both of them curl & fro so much. Not to mention they've been wild back yard beast in the sun. Edit: I use the Madan gold large comb right now but I can tell they don't enjoy it at all, guess we'll tough throuygh it literally and consider this a lesson learned.from minimomo

| I don't know if I'm too late with this, but corn starch is the magic you are looking for. Just take a pinch and rub it into the matt and then work out the tangles with a comb. You may need to rub a little more in, work on the matt, rub a little more end, etc. But it will work to detangle the mattes.

| I've had luck using a horse mane and tail comb in addition to baby detangler. I'm also guilty of letting grooming slide because of a new baby (5 months) and will have to try the corn starch trick. I love having my little ones in full coat and hate to have to shave them due to not having time to groom |

| I forgot to post pics of the hair cut! LOL I did get the mat out but guess what worked ? baby's HPA lanolin! Seriously it completely coated each individual hair and then I brushed until it came out, I did do a serious winter trim for Elvis though. Elvis wears sweaters all winter here and I had to be realistic about how our schedule is right now and the lack of attention grooming is getting, so he and Princess got short cuts for the winter and until baby Marek is scheduled and life gets back to a realistic schedule. Derik brought home a bag of the corn starch and started to try it for me, then well technically he gave Elvis the hair cut, but hey Dad was putting in effort towards grooming the dogs so I just sat back and was thankful for the help especially since he honestly doesn't do much for the Yorkie's here, he's all about the mini schnauzer

Mine have always been really defensive of my kids but I think it has always been they see how my older two love them and provide for them etc and thus they intact well together. I was shocked at how defensive Elvis is over Marek (5 months too) Elvis won't let the other dogs remotely near him, and he jumps up and in front of me when guests are here like he needs to pre-screen them before they can get near baby-ironically he also seems 'scared' or ;disinterested' in Marek for the most part already though too. Although it may have to do with Marek chasing Elvis around in the walker already. I need to take the time to resize my pics and videos to post them on here. But was wondering if you are experiencing a similar situation.
