| Recommended veterinarian in the GVRD? Any recommendations for a favourite, proven vet for your yorkie(s) in the Greater Vancouver area? I've gone to Atlas Animal Hospital for years as well as the one on Cambie and 2nd (?) the police dogs, etc, go to with my previous two and my cat. For various reasons, I don't want to use Atlas anymore (though I actually like Dr. Buellar (sp), just not pretty much everything else and what it's become over the years). My cat's been switched over to a feline hospital while my yorkie has been going to the breeder recommended vet/associates except for the dental work. I made what might have been the mistake of going to one much further out in Guildford that was highly recommended by my baby's puppyclassmate's parents and seeing as how their tiny little yorkie survived his operation, I thought the vet should be a safe bet for my girl who was 2-3 times his size ... Well, now I have a few reasons why I would not go back there again. I'm very much tempted to ask healthy happy aged yorkies' owners which vet they use whenever I meet one... and I just might but thought I'd try on here first. It's either that or go by a general vet review site I've come upon online. Better/longer business hours would be great too. Thanks in advance! |

| Hello! I use Dr. Yvonne Van Duin at Island Veterinary Hospital Island Veterinary Hospital :: Welcome We've only been taking our 2 Yorkies to her for about a year (I switched from one closer to home because of an incident), but she was our Vet for several years when she was at the Granville Island Clinic. (We had a MinPin and a Yorkie/Poodle cross at the time). She was a great Vet --very thorough and caring, and when I had a problem with the Vet my Breeder recommended, I went looking to find out where Dr. Van Duin had gone. Turns out she had bought her own practice. We've been very happy with the quality of care our 2 guys have been getting at her new practice and I feel comforatable passing her name on. HTH, Linm

| Thanks, Linm, for the info! Actually, that's not too far away and I've passed by there more often than I can count and recognized their logo on the website immediately. Always thought the place had more livestock clients than anything because of the outside appearance and location. With the location, it seems I may be able to pay her a visit sooner rather than later so long as the roads are kept plowed. I'll have to compare her with a Langley recommendation I got from here. IVH is a LOT closer, of course, so it'd make a good emergency / local / backup vet. but hopefully, she'll be the only one I'll need to go to since it makes life a little easier to just have to cross one bridge as opposed to two and then some. Btw, would you happen to also have a good groomer you use who's really good with sanding/filing down the nails of really wriggly unco-operative little ones? My baby's had a few bad experiences and now she's gotten really jumpy about getting her nails done. She fears the clippers but I think she'll be alright with the filers. |

| I don't think they do livestock at all, but I know what you mean -- I thought the same thing whenever I drove by. It has 2 front doors: one for cats, and one for dogs. Separate Waiting Rooms, too! I had never seen that. All of the staff seem very good. I appreciated that they gave my guys very thorough check-ups. The other Vet I had gone to had diagnosed collapsing trachea and an enlarged heart for Corabel. Yvonne originally booked us in for an ultrasound but when she looked at all the various X-Rays and tests that had been done, she said Cora's heart was fine. Her cough cleared up and she has been going strong ever since! As for Groomers, my Breeder, Lorraine is also my Groomer. She comes right to you! Mobile Grooming HTH, Linm
