Omg snip snip for Jersey Boy

I received the card from the vet that it is time for Jersey Boy's neutering. What can I expect? I am a little nervous he's 6 months old and about 4.5 - 5lbs. The vet thought he would be about 6lbs by 6 months. The vet suggested we wait until he was 6lbs so maybe I can put it off for a little while. Any advice would be apprecited.

Why do you want to get him neutered?

Assuming he is healthy, you want to get him neutered before he starts marking, & if he's now a squatter, before he starts lifting his leg. His bio clock is driving the time to neuter.

It may be a while, if ever, before he reaches 6 lbs.

Yorkies are neutered at less than 6 lbs.

Just a clarification. You can get him neutered after marking, but he may continue marking.

I see this is from August, but thought I'd chime in in case the op was still around. Like Bildio said I would neuter right away before he starts to lift his leg. We adopted Beans at six months old and had him nuetered right away, yet for almost a year he still marked. FINALLY (keeping my fingers crossed) he SEEMED to have stopped lifting in the house, but does still do it outside. Good luck.

Hi,
Jesey Boy isn't marking or not that I'm aware of. I thought he would be having the procedure this Friday but his pre-op blood work came back off the charts ( as the vet put it) the vet feels there was a problem with the test so we brought him back in today for another test. Keeping my fingers crossed that there is nothing wrong.

Laurie
PS We got Jersey in Toms River NJ Hence the name Jersey Boy

Elaine,
So sorry about your Jersey girl it must have been devasting for you.
We bought Jersey from a women named Keri , we picked him up from where she worked at Picture Perfect Pets (grooming) on Rt 9 in Toms River. Please let me know if this was the same for you.
Have you gotten another baby?

We'll be sending good thoughts and prayers for Jersey boy's results to come back okay.

Hot Rod was neutered at 6 1/2 mos old and he was just under 3 lbs. He did fine and so will your Jersey Boy. Hugs.

Thank You! I got word earlier today that his tests came back fine. I am so relieved. How did Hot Rod do with his surgery? How long did it take him to recoup? Did you have to use the cone?

Oh that is good news! You must be so relieved. Hot Rod did well after his neuter. He did have a reaction to one of the meds that he had to take after and I had to keep him quiet and still for a few days. He was groggy and sleepy for about 3 days. The meds were not related to the neuter. He wasn't supposed to o anything physical for 10 days but he was jumping up and off the couch at day 5.

It would depend on your dog as far as the collar. I don't remember him bothering his incision back then. I developed these collars for his lp surgery. They are good those for just in case.

Thanks, I just want to get it done and over with. The blood work scare was enough for me!!! I swear it just like I'm a Mom of a little baby again. I love my Vet and the staff at the office, they keep me calm, well calm on the outside on the inside it's another story LOL.

I wish you well with his neuter. Waiting to hear it' done and over is 85% of it! Once you get that phone call, your nerves will be gone. Trust me. If you need to talk, we're here. feel free to pm with any questions.

Hot Rod had 14 teeth removed at the time of his neuter as well! Yikes!

I've read that others have had other many teeth removed while they were being spayed and neutered. Hot Rod's baby teeth had not come out so that is why.
