| Camping... We have talked about this before but I think it would be fitting here traveling, vacationing, etc. So any good tips on camping safely & effectively, fun activities to do with yorkies? We bought a pop up since my small SUV wont pull a lot of weight & might try to get a couple outings in before winter comes. & are looking forward to some camp bound meet ups in the spring. Kristi, I know you have some to share w/us Any others in or near Ohio like camping? Rachel & Tilula Last edited by rachelsyorkie; 10-06-2007 at 05:35 PM. |

| You'll have fun! We have a pop-up too and took Paris #1 camping. She was always the little star of the campground. This year, we had 2...it was a little tougher in the pop-up....and now we have brought Samira in so we are going through the agonizing upgrade phase. Next year, we will either be incredibly popular in the Michigan State Parks...or hated by anti-dog lovers! Either way...the Brunsy's will have fun and I'm sure you will too!! |

| Our two Yorkies go camping with us all the time. Just keep them away from big dogs, and dogs that aren't on leashes. They love to go, and when they see the motorhome, they start dancing. |

| I bet you have lots of fun with a motorhome. I've only been camping once and it was in Florida. It was so hot we landed up in a hotel. LOL It was nice in the evenings though.

| Sorry..... just seen this one!! Better late than never?? You wil LOVE camping with the Yorkies!! Here's a few things: 1. Lots of kids....we have a rule... petting is fine.. picking them up is NOT fine. 2. Watch for big dogs.... most parks have leash rules, but sometimes a dog will manage to get away. 3. We have some really neat beds (covered "cabanas") that we use when we are camping. Made for outdoors. They go inside of the x-pens (we use 2 x-pens together) and have a shade on them!! The dogs LOVE them and it keeps them out of the bright sun! (we got them from Pet Edge... they are green and white striped). 4. Don't forget a fan!!....... always have one in case it gets too hot!! (the dogs like the breeze!!) 5. Make a first aid kit!!... we always include "paw wax" in it. It works great for when we take walks and don't want them to get "raw paw". Our fav campground is 1 hour south of Cincinnati... KY horsepark. Really nice and clean. Plus dog friendly! Have met lots of peeps with Yorkies! Maybe we can set something up next spring and camp on a weekend. Even plan a Meetup!!...weather permitting!

| We have a motorhome and take our "kids" with us. They LOVE it!!! When ever they see us putting anything into the thing...they freek...They want to go now. I too have a first aid kit for them. Mine are tinys so I have NutraCal incase of hyperglicemia(sp) a pair of scissors, brush and tweezers incase of a burr. a small bottle of pepto for a tummy ache. I haven't had to use it yet. lol I too use 2 xpens together. I make sure I pick up ANYthing that they might try to chew, sticks, pebbles, clumps of cut grass. The great thing about the motorhome (what ever you have) is that it is yours and theirs and they get used to it just like home and get very comfortable. I take favorite toys and even a set of their steps so they can get up on the dinette seat. I too am in Ohio and am working on getting to all the state parks. They love the attention but I keep a CLOSE eye on them at all times. I can not impress that enough. For their safety concerning wild animals as well as other people's dogs. Sometime other people do not use good sense and you have to be there for your baby. I have a great time with them and see this as a long term pleasure for both my husband and our 4 little ones By the way some Ohio State Parks have areas that are non pet as well as pet sites so if someone is not an animal person they aren't bothered....well, and neither am I by them quite frankly.

| Beware of predators.... There are coyotes around this park we're in now in Az, as well as feral rabbits, and even a visiting bob cat....also roadrunners are dangerous , they have the ability to carry off a small yorkie....as well as eagles, hawks, and other large birds.... we never leave Widget outside without one of us there to watch her..... |

| Camping with yorkies is FUN! We do a lot of weekend camping with our 4 yorkies in our RV. My fur babies LOVE IT- typically we are fairly popular at the campgrounds we stay at. Other campers always stop by to "check out our stock" ("how many yorkies do you have??") Children want to visit to pet and play with them. You wouldn't believe how many yorkie lovers there are out there! (who couldn't love a yorkie??) When they see our traveling herd they always stop by and visit and tell us stories about the yorkie(s) in their life. I have the same rule as Shelby&Seymour- I will let them pet, but no one is allowed to pick up. And I don't ever leave them outside unattended. (ya just never know... ) I have two pet corrals that I hook together, makes a nice large play area for them. They have their own pet tent that attaches to the corral, and then they have pet beds and toys that stay in the RV. When I start packing the RV getting ready for trip they get sooo excited- they know what's coming. It's like a second home to them and they are always up for a new adventure! If you haven't tried it you should- what an experience!! |

| 3 Yorkies, 2 Years, 9,000 miles! We left Chandler, Arizona about 2 years ago, in our RV, with our three Yorkies: Mysti, Mochiah, and Mocha. We traveled all over the US, from Cali to the East Coast, from Ohio, to Miami, Florida, and everywhere in between! We just arrived back in Arizona 6 weeks ago... We'll be here through the winter, and then... who knows. I guess you could say that our Yorkies are "high mileage" Yorkies! |
