| Chicago folks-- public transit? Hey guys, I'm planning to do a bit of travel with little miss Penny, and I was wondering if the CTA is dog-friendly, particularly the El trains? She'd be in an airline carry-on style bag. I didn't want to get there and have someone turn me away from the train because of my dog! Anybody know if they are allowed aboard in carriers? I couldn't find the info on their website anywhere.

| I can't speak for Chicago (never been) but I know this summer I was in Santa Barbara and wanted to take the little trolly that goes into town and was carrying Teddi and the driver told me she couldn't get on....so I got off and then he said well if I don't know she is there or is in a bag then it's OK so I hid her in my hoodie. He must have been a dog lover because then he proceeded to make a special stop and dropped me off at a cute dog store he told me about! I think it's better to have them in a bag and not seen.

| My daughter lives in Chicago and she travels on the L all the time but she does keep Joey in his bag or her back pack which ever she has with her that day. |

| Allowed in a carrier Quote:
"A small dog in an enclosed carrier is allowed on the CTA buses and on the CTA "L" trains at no additional fee." Chicago is rated as one of the most pet friendly cities. I think you'll find the link below pretty helpful. I've spent most of my life in Chicago minus the past year It is definitely dog friendly, especially to small dogs. Hope you have a good time! Just make sure you have warm clothes for your little one since it's already cold and with the wind in the city, it gets to be a lot. I'm taking my little guy there for Thanksgiving http://www.dogfriendly.com/server/tr...LChicago.shtml

| Geez. I actually called the CTA and the lady that I spoke to said that dogs were not permitted on the L train. :/ I cancelled my plans to take Penny with me for Christmas because I couldn't get her into the city for our flight.

| They aren't actually suppose to be allowed on, but most of the time as long as they behave and are in their carrier, nobody will say anything. As for the buses, thats a different story. They won't let you at all, carrier or not, unless you sneak them on like I do. And some advice for you since you are coming to Chicago soon, allow more time to get from point A to B if you take the train. They are doing construction -like always- and the trains are DRAGGING BAD!!! Its terrible. For me to get to school it takes an hour!! :-( and I live 5 miles away from my school. Also, http://transitchicago.com/ is a really good site for information about the trains. |
