What am I doing wrong????

My sparky is now 4 months old. At night I crate train him to sleep. He is pretty good sleeping in its crate (closed door). I would put him to sleep at 11:30 – 12:00p and wake up at 6am when my alarm goes off. He can hold it in for that long.

In the AM I put him in an X-pen during the time I am at work. Normally he won’t pee when I watch him, but when I turn my back and do something he already pees on the wee wee pad. Problem is when he poo. He would be in the process of pooing in the wee wee pad and before he is done jumps off the pad and part of the poo is on the pad and the other is on the floor. Is this normal?

When I come home I let him out in the play pen and roam around with my supervision, then he don’t know where to pee anymore. Last nite he peed on the floor. Am I doing something wrong? When I crate him he knows where to go. He will forget only when he gets excited to see me. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks.

I don't know if you're doing anything wrong. I have one little girl that does both on the pad. Some times a "cling-on" drops on the floor. My other little girl pees on the pad, but poos on the kitchen linoleum, my little boy is in a belly band, but poos in our hallway (it's darker) or on the bathroom linoleum. I guess I will just have to live with that and that's okay. Long as they are not peeing on my carpet!!

Yes, my sparky does that too. I dont have carpet so that is good for me. But as long as he is we'll potty train i will be happy. My next concern is trying to get him to poo and pee outside. He shakes when he is outside and wont budge. Thanks for your comment.

We are planning on putting up a privacy fence in a small area next spring (already have the money put back). I'm wanting to teach them to go out and do their business as much as possible. Try to cut down on the pad expense. Joey will still have to wear a belly band with two females in the house though, but I don't mind that.

True, i bought 4 cases of pads already for sparky. I would save me alot. What is a belly band?

You're not doing anything wrong. he is just very very young. Give him time and keep wee pads all over when he is out of the x pen

Yes walking and pooping is normal, mine did that too. some of them just walk when the poop. but poop is easy to clean up.

Mine would use the pee pad or even the doggie door when in the kitchen but not when I let them in the living room, so when I let them in the living room, I would move the pee pad in there also. Just because they know to use it in one room does not mean they know it in another room. When they get old enough they can make the connection, but don't expect miracles for at least another 4 months.

It just takes time and patience.

Belly bands are like a diaper for a male. they use a panty liner and go around their bellys over their wee wees. It's good if you have a male that marks in the house.

4 months is still young. Just because he can hold it at night in his crate while he is sleeping doesn't mean he will hold it all day.

Loki waddles when he poops. Picking up the yard is always tons of fun Don't be surprised if that doesn't change.

I've noticed with Venus (5 months old), she starts to poo on the pad. Seems before "it" drops, she starts walking off, then of course, it never drops on the pad.

I have to give her credit for starting out on the pad though. And poo is much easier to clean up.

I suppose I have a "walking pooer" too.

I thought it was just me! Lucy will pee on the pad, but seems to just miss when she poops.

I have to watch Rebel like a hawk when he's out of his playpen. He starts backing up in a circle when he has to poop. I try to grab him and put him on a pad and he yelps like I'm hurting him!

They're taken out lots during the day and both will go outside with no problem, but I want them to use the pads if they just have to go inside.

You are not doing anything wrong as far as the missing of the pad with the poo. Today in puppy training class, we were cautioned not to let our puppies get used to having privacy when they eliminate. If you do that, then you are in a dangerous situation if you go to a hotel, camping, etc, any place where your dog must stay on the leash when he/she goes. Allowing him off leash and allowing him privacy could create a situation where your dog could run off. Just something to think about. Just be sure to praise praise praise when he goes outside while on the leash and in your presence.
