Confused This is SO embarrassing...

Recently, my yorkie starts to pee when she greets people.

*sigh*

She gets very excited and starts to "dribble".

Anyway to "cure" that??

I'd hate to walk around with a stash of paper towels/napkins in my bag!

from what i've heard it's a submissive thing... and that u should never yell at them for doing it... just kinda help them settle down, grab a paper towel and clean it up... cash does this in places where people are all around, yeah sorta embarrassing but oh well i'm hoping he grows out of it or i'll talk to a vet for suggestions.. good luck.

One of my moms poms pees when people greet her or she gets really excited. I read that when you have a submissive dog, you should not look them in the eyes when you get home. You should walk in calmly, wait a few minutes and THEN greet the dog. I think that doing that helps them to calm down a bit... My mom always tells people to not greet or touch Precious when they first come in and it helps a little...

We have to do this with my mother-in-law's Westie. He's a submissive pee-er and if you say his name or even look in his direction when you first get there, he goes... and it's not just a little, it's like a freakin river! If we completely ignore him the first half our or so we're there (whatever it takes for him to obviously calm down) we usually don't have any problems.

I have had several puppies that did this - and everyone of them outgrew it.

Remember these little guys just pee whenever they want. Their little bladders don't hold much and they certainly need to get a little older before they have much control.

They just get so excited!!!! Don't they? Except for the "pee" --it's cute!

This is called "submissive urination". It's kind of like saying "I'm just a little thing so don't hurt me..." Edie did this the first time she saw another dog (other than her mother and her sister) when she was 14 weeks old. After that her confidence grew, and she has not done it again. Some dogs never outgrow it, however.

do you put clothes on her at all? Becuase maybe whenever she goes out with you or you are expecting people to come over you could put a diaper on her. I have little skirted diapers that I put on chloe when I take her to my moms house. And she usually wears a cute t-shirt with it so no one even realizes she wearing diapers because she sometimes has potty problems, they just think its part of her outfits

Mojo has done this only a few times, but he hasn't in awhile. The only time he did do it was whenever we had been gone for a while and we were happy to be home again with him....so he was overly excited to see us and we were overly excited to see him.

He hasn't done this in such a long time....I don't know if he outgrew it or if it is because we are always home and when we go places he usually goes with us or we are not gone long. He was a lot younger too when he did this.

That makes sense. Trixie does this all the time with my husband and other people coming in the house. But never ever when I come in, it doesn't matter how long she's held it and how excited she is... I guess she thinks she's my pack leader

Try not to get them so exited when someone comes in. Mine does this if someone comes in overly excited. Just kinda ignore them when you come. I do talk to her but in a calm voice. Then we go outside and we hoop and holla.

Angel Don't worry

Is your dog still a pup or is your pup an adult? I think you said it was a pup.The reason I ask is because a few years ago I used to have a rat terrier named Star. Well anyways Star was very hyper and she used to do the same thing as yours. There is good news, but it may take a while. She gave up the pee pee habit when she got out of her puppy stage. Atleast yours didn't pee on the couch out of excitement while you were playing with her. So hang in there and Goodluck. There is still hope for you..................... Also it my not be the same case as mine. Yours my get better at it. So don't worry. Enjoy your furbaby. No matter the case they are worth it. I'm sure you agree.

Thank you all for your suggestions and advices!

I've done what you said and we discovered something. She only dribbles or pees when she's touched (when greeting people). So, we have stopped petting her (my mom thought it was "cruel"), only greet her with a calm voice.

She stopped.

Thanks guys!!!
