Default I give up - Tink is wearing a diaper for the rest of her life!

I need to vent. I'm just looking for some commiseration. I've read it all, tried it all and the conclusion is Tink doesn't get it anymore. She was doing so well with only the odd accident once in a great while - and always because I wasn't paying attention.

Tink is 14 months and is completely crate trained and has been since about two weeks after I got her. The only time she ever went in her crate was when I had to leave her once for a long time and she just couldn't wait any longer. Then she went in a corner on a little blanket and was so ashamed when I got home. Poor thing!

But since September she has been pottying and pooing on the rug and the carpet. The poos are usually at least near the pad, but the potty is wherever she decides to squat! I've tethered her to me so I can watch her every second - but even that doesn't work. I'll be looking right at her and she'll squat and potty before I can grab her up. No warning at all!

When I'm home and she is out of her crate, she wants to go outside about every 30 minutes. She barks to let me know she wants to go out. Sometimes she potties, sometimes not - usually just barks at the leaves. Rarely ever poos outside anymore. But even if she does potty outside, she'll potty on the carpet 10 min. later!

I even set the timer after she drinks so I don't forget to watch her and take her out. Doesn't matter.

I can't keep her crated when I'm home, because she screams her head off wanting out. I've tried ignoring her and it does not work. She keeps screaming. I tried it for two weeks and the neighbors finally complained. They were very patient cause they know I'm trying to re-train her.

The vet thinks she has some brain damage because of the seizures when she was so sick this summer, and doesn't understand what she's doing. But why can she go for 4-5 hrs in her crate without an accident?

Yesterday and today I was so upset, I spoke to her in a very angry voice. Scared her to pieces, so now she wants to be held all the time. I feel awful for having done that to her but I was so frustrated and upset with her. I don't know what to think but I can't live with a carpet that smells of potty. I'm shampooing every night! My body can't handle that either. ARGHH!

Please don't tell me I need to be patient. I've been very patient. Bought books, DVDs, CDs, searched the web, read tons on YT. I'm just weary of it. I love my little Tinkerbrat very much but I think she may never be trained.

The only thing I know to do for my sanity and the salvation of my carpet is to put a diaper on her all the time. They'll have to be color coordinated to go with her clothes.

OK, thanks for listening, I'm done venting now.

I understand your frustration completely and please dont beat yourself up over it..we all say things we wish we could take back once in a while..we arent perfect hun. Its hard to say why she is doing what she is doing..diapers are a good solution..and maybe one day she will "get" it..but until then she is lucky to have you to understand..some people would just give up on the dog altogether..so your a good mommy!!

Oh, I'm really sorry to hear this about Ms. Tink. It sure does sound like you have tried every last thing with her, and she is having no part of it I know how these stubborn little brats can be sometimes, but I can't imagine that much pottying on carpets. I'm sorry, and I'll say a prayer that she can learn to go outside

i'm sorry your having so many potty problems with tink. As i was reading i was gonna suggest more crate time even when your home but then i read you tried that for two weeks and she screamed constantly. I really don't know what else to offer you in the way of advise because consulting a behaviorist. But then again maybe she does have some brain damage from the seizures and just doesn't get it. I'm sorry.

Maybe if you do diaper her all the time she'll hold it because she won't want to go in her diaper and then sit in it, ya know?

Awww, Susie. I'm feel your frustration. Fortunately there are tons of cute diapers out there! If Tink does have some type of neurological damage you may find you truly are fighting a losing battle. Also...once its in the carpet, it's so hard to convince them to go anywhere else.

Sorry, no advice hear, just an ear to vent to and a shoulder to cry on.

Oh, that's a good thought, because she does hate to have a wet diaper. She wants it changed right away if she wets in it at night. (just like a baby) I didn't think about that. Maybe it will help in the long run. Thanks for that thought!

I'm sorry you're going through this. Have you considered trying using outside for potty instead of inside? Just a thought.

Awww Susie... I'm sure she'll soon sort her act out once she's had a diaper on her for a few days.

I know how frustrated you must be.

I'm sorry you're having such a hard time. They really are pig headed. Do you go outside with her and praise her when she goes? Maybe you can give her treats when she goes. I know you just get to the point you don't think anything will work. I'll say a prayer everything is ok.

Thanks for the support everyone.

Tink has been trained to go outside. She only has a potty pad at the foot of my bed for night time. But for some unknown reason, she has decided that is the place that all the poos are supposed to go now.

She used to do just fine and hardly ever had an accident. It's just recently that she has regressed to the stone-age.

She does get effusive praise every time she potties or poos outside and she gets treats too. In fact, my neighbor said once, "Susie I think you've lost it. All she did was pee!" LOL

I'm sorry you're having trouble with Tink and her potty habits. I have to ask though, have you had her to the vet to make sure there is nothing else going on? If she was doing so well at this age and suddenly started doing it, I would check her out with the vet. You never know.

Yep. We go once a week for her bloodwork and he always does a UA too. I talk so much about it that it's now the first topic of conversation.

Gosh, I don't know what to say. I can feel your frustration. I think I would go crazy if Chloe stopped being so good about being housebroken. We still get the occasional accident here once in a while, and that's frustrating enough. So I can only imagine how hard it must be to deal with, especially since she used to do so well.
