| Question About Conjunctivitis I took my furbaby to the vet yesterday because he had some greenish discharge coming out of his right eye. He was diagnosed with conjunctivitis. He said it isn't contagious to humans. However, I forgot to ask him if it's contagious to other dogs? Does anyone know if it is? |

| Ellie had it a couple months ago. Her vet said that she wouldn't worry about it. I think it depends on the kind but the main form is bacterial.

| I was just doing a little bit of looking around online for you. A lot of people say it is contagious from dog to dog. I had a book from the library I just remembered it said something about some forms are not contagious. It all depends. That helps a lot, huh?lol

| Yes I think it is. China got it and she gave it to the other dog she lives with. Be sure to wash your hands after you treat her so you dont give it to the other dogs. |

| Ellie had eye drops for a week or two. The redness and thick discharge went away within that time but her eyes have been runny for awhile now. Her vet said it is okay. There is nothing wrong with her eyes and what we see now is probably allergies. I just read online (not sure if it is true or not) that Conjuntivitis caused by viruses are contagious (along with possibly bacterial or fungus), while Conjunctivitis caused by allergies is not. If the discharge is runny and clear, it is probably allergies. If the discharge is yellow or green, it is probably the other category. I really dunno though. I guess I wouldn't make a very good vet.

| My furbaby is doing much better today. He has no more greenish discharge but I will continue to use the medicine for 2 more days as instructed by the vet just to make sure it is all gone. |

| conjunctivitis Depends on what is causing the discharge. Is it an upper respiratory infection, something in his eye, etc. I think conjuntivitis is a general term they give for eye infections. Many things can cause green boogers from the eye, what I have found most is either URI or dry eye. If it is an actual bacteria that is transmittable, make sure you have some BNP (which they probably gave you already) for the others. Pam |

| the virus, not the conjunctivitis is contagious I should read all of the posts before I reply. The virus that causes the conjunctivitis is contagious (most likely) not the actual eye discharge. More likely than not the virus is airborne. |
