| Starsky had a maggot in him! Gross! Starsky had this bug bite on him which I thought was a mosquito bite that was getting infected. I watched it for a week because it had a head on it and I thought it was going to heal. Well it was getting worse and since I had to work today, I had my husband take him to the vet. The vet took the head off of the bump and squeezed some stuff out. She said the hole wasn't big enough to get the wormy thing out. So she took Starsky in the back and gave him a local and cut it out. She came back and asked my husband if he wanted to see it and he said yes. It was a white maggot with a black head. GROSS! I was glad he took him and not me. I guess the vet said they usually see this about 2 times a year and this year they have seen it 6 or 7 times. Flies can lay eggs on our little guys, so watch it. Has anyone else ever heard of this happening? Starsky is okay now. Just have to put neosporin on it.

| I have never heard of such a thing....But this is why I'm glad I'm part of YT, cause this is how we find out things..from other members. I think I would have reacted the same way you did. Glad your hubby took him, they have a stronger tummy than us...lol

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Wow....this is the 3rd yorkie with this in a month ? I've seen it on Animal planet and I guess this can happen very easily...and judging by what the vet said - this must be really happening more often - I wonder why ? good thing you took him into the vet - can you imagine doing that yourself ? oooowwweeee !!! I'd freak but then again - We'd do anything for our yorkies wouldn't we ? I hope he heals up quick - did the vet tell you how to prevent this ? |
