I think the way to prevent it would be to check your dog for any open sores because that is what the fly lays the egg in. With Maddie, I think it was the site where she had the tick and it left an open sore. If they do have any open sores, treat them by cleaning with hydrogine peroxide and then neosporin so they heal up quickly. Also, keep them away from flies if they do happen to have a sore on them. It all starts out with a sore from a bug bite or something else, so if they have no sores on them, they shouldn't be affected!
