| Qucik question about panting. I have a 14 yr old toy Yorkshire and he just tonight started to panting heavy. The weather in Chicago is pretty hot tonight so I have the air on and the house now is pretty cold, but yet he is still panting and drooling a little. I am concerned because he never really pants and i am concerned. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you |

| You can also give him water using a doppler or syringe. If he keeps panting and drooling after drinking water I will contact your vet. |

| My advice would be to contact your vet...The fact that he's drooling may be somewhat of a concern. The only time that Miko really drools is when he's highly stressed out about something or if he's having a seizure. On the other hand, it may just be nothing at all! Hopefully, he's just thirsty.

| My boys only a puppy, but he responds well to a ice cube in the palm of my hand when hot. Get some one on one cuddle action while he licks at the ice cube. |

| There are times when my dogs pant for no good reason at all. My Bichon will even start panting once in a while when he is lying down just resting. And - of course, sometimes they pant in the car - even though it is cool - and they have "begged" me to take them for a ride. Go figure! Anyway - I mentioned it to my vet once - and he said this can be perfectly normal and not to worry about it at all... interestingly, he said that some breeds (with deep barrel-type chests) pant a lot and seem to enjoy doing it. If my dog panted only occasionally and was perfectly well before and after doing this -- I wouldn't waste my money going to a vet. I'd just ask him about it the next time I had to go in for some other reason. Good luck! Carol Jean |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Glad to hear he's better. I have a 9 year old pom who has always panted. The only time she doesn't is when she is sleeping or eating.

| I'm glad yours is doing better! The times mine have panted out of the ordinary are when they are nervous, stressed, in pain, or something was medically wrong. I guess mine are just wacko though lol- seems they are the only ones . Welcome to YT!
