There are times when my dogs pant for no good reason at all. My Bichon will even start panting once in a while when he is lying down just resting.

And - of course, sometimes they pant in the car - even though it is cool - and they have "begged" me to take them for a ride. Go figure!

Anyway - I mentioned it to my vet once - and he said this can be perfectly normal and not to worry about it at all... interestingly, he said that some breeds (with deep barrel-type chests) pant a lot and seem to enjoy doing it.

If my dog panted only occasionally and was perfectly well before and after doing this -- I wouldn't waste my money going to a vet. I'd just ask him about it the next time I had to go in for some other reason.
