Default Tink is sick

My 13wk old yorkie pup, Tink is sick. She hasn't eaten today and she has watery stools. What should I do? She is only 1lb.6oz. I am worried for her. I put some nutrical on her tounge but she just wants to lay around. Any advice? I have a call into my vet and am waiting for a call back.

try feeding her some bland boiled chicken and white rice. it will help bind her stools and might get her to eat

my vet cant see her today since he is going out of town and there's no available appointments today. He is booked solid. I tried the chicken and rice and she wont eat that either.

ok, so she's not interested in eating and she has soft stools... its ok that she doesn't eat today but make sure she gets nutrical a couple times a day and give her water a couple times a day as well. she may just have a tummy ache and doesn't want to eat. if she were a bigger dog this wouldn't be a problem but since she is so small you have to watch her sugar levels. Tomorrow she may be 100% better. if not then you should take her to an emergency vet.

As far as I know there aren't any emergancy vets in my area. I've been told there are some in OKC but that is like 2hrs from me and then I have no clue on how to get to them. I am from Ks. and now live in Ok. I get lost easily and city traffic just really unnerves me. I really wish my vet could see her today. I know she is sick because I can smell the sick smell on her. Everyone teases me but I can tell when my kids are sick just by smelling them. And there's no difference with my fur kids. They smell different when they are sick. I am still waiting on my vet to call me back and give me advise on what to do.

well then its total crap that your vet won't see a sick dog. IMO that's not a very good vet. Vets should want to see any animal that is sick, ESPECIALLY when its a long weekend. Maybe you should find another vet. Start calling some in the area and see if they'll see her today.

I totally agree.....my vet will stop what he's doing to see a sick dog especially a puppy.....these little dogs can go down very quickly and you should find a new vet that will see your puppy.Don't take a wait and see approach...16oz is too small to take a risk in waiting.

I would try to get ahold of another vet, not necessarily an Emergency one, just one who can see Tink ASAP. Keep us updated.

See if you can get a syringe from the grocery store in the childrens section and make sure and give him the N and water every 2-3 hours until and if you find a vet, keeping him hydrated and glucose levels up will help him get through this pending its only a bug or passing thing.

I gave her some pepto and she is now eating the boiled chicken and rice that I gave her. I love my vet! He is a great vet. He has been sick recently and has to go to the city to the hospital today for some tests. He said that if she isn't better to call his cell phone and he'd come in to see her. I think she is doing better though. Thanks for the advise.

YEAAAH! I forgot about the pepto bismol trick, i gave that to Yogi about 3 weeks ago when he was sick, it does work very well. They get tummy aches just like we do, poor little buddies! Glad he's better!

Kitty, that post was a couple days ago. I am just wondering how Tink is doing now today? I hope she is much better.
Give us an update when you can.
