| Help; Strange Choking/Coughing noises. Hi all! Leo will be 10 months old at the end of this month and last month he started to make these really weird choking and coughing noises. I looked up inverted sneezing and it didn't sound like it. I looked up kennel cough and I don't think its that either. I even looked up collapsed trachea and sources said it's supposed to sound more like geese honking. He started doing this suddenly after Hurricane Irma hit here and I also started to get REALLY bad allergies that have lasted me 2 weeks+. I think it may be the increase in pollen in the air since we still have a lot of debris and fallen trees by my house. We both started showing these symptoms at around the same time. Is it possible that he's having allergies? I took a video of the coughing and choking noise and got a pretty good clip I believe on what its like. It lasts for less than 30 seconds at a time but he does it EVERY morning when I let him out of his kennel and sometimes throughout the day if he gets really excited. Overall, he's still eating and drinking fine. Using the bathroom fine. He's acting completely normal other than the choking and coughing thing. For reference, when he was about 4 months old he choked on a piece of chicken breast that fell on the floor and I accidentally scratched his throat with my nail trying to get the piece of chicken to either come back up or go down. I'm not sure if this may be contributing to what's going on but if anyone can help I'd appreciate it. Just as a caution I've made him an appointment with his vet on Wednesday but I wanted to get some insight before I take him there! Thanks in advance <3 Here is the clip of his coughing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ACLPYpx6Ok

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It could be just a bit of a reverse sneeze. Read this article about reflux/GERD too: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...wallowing.html GERD is very common in yorkies and easily treated.

| It does sound more like reverse sneeze to me. I have had a few pups over the years with CT....they don't always sound exactly the same. Watch him carefully when he is doing it.....usually with a reverse sneeze, you will see an even exchange of air...inspiration and expiration. If they really get to coughing with CT, you don't see as much air going in. Hope that makes sense. The only true way to diagnose CT is to have a flouroscopy done....sometimes you can see it on an xray; but, I think that is a waste of money because it does not always show!. If it does not show up on the xray it does not mean a pup does not have CT. So, don't let anyone talk you into an xray just for diagnosing CT!
