| sick Winnie Scary morning....Winnie got up, went outside and did her business. Came back in and then acted like she had to poo again....so I took her back out and she just curled up on the ground. So I carried her back in and sat down on the couch with her and she started coughing....tongue hanging out and drooling. So I called the vet and ran out the door with her. On the way she started howling and crying and coughing....pooping all over me. We got there and they took her away from me and ran. I thought she was choking on something. After what seemed like an eternity of sitting in that room hearing her cry ( was really about 15 minutes) the vet came in and said she wasn't choking and the x-rays showed a ton of gas in her intestines. They have her gas drops and pain medicine. She's still crying in pain. Last night I thought she ate a mushroom....but it was dark. And she was fine this morning....one minute normal and literally the next I thought she was gonna die. She is at the vet right now under observation....waiting for her pain to subside so they can do blood work and more x-rays. I'm scared to death right now.... |

| The vet just called and said she is not crying in pain anymore. She's calm and sleepy. They were able to do the repeat x-rays and get blood to do a panel. The gas seems to be dispersing with the baby tummy drops and they didn't have to give her any more pain med. They are going to observe her for the next few hours and see how she does once the med wears off. The vet thinks it was the mushroom...that maybe she ate more than I thought. They don't see any blockages or foreign objects...and her intestines are straight so no inversion they can see. So she's pretty confident that's what it is. I'm kicking myself cuz I saw that mushroom earlier in the day and forgot to pick it up and throw it away. I usually do cuz of my kids but they had just gotten home and were fighting so I got distracted....and I'm so mad at myself right now. Now I'm just praying that this is the cause and that it hasn't done any damage to her liver or anything else....it kinda feels like when one of your kids gets hurt or sick....I'm just so worried right now. |

| I'm so sorry that you are going through this anguish, and that your baby was in such pain! Don't blame yourself; you never know what your babies will take a bite of! We have mushrooms growing at the edge of our woods because of all the rain we've had, but so far our two have left them alone. You can bet I'll be pulling them and throwing them into the woods after reading your posts! I hope your little one is perfectly fine!

| oh man I tell ya...I had no idea gas could do such a thing to a dog....as a vet tech for years, i can't say i ever saw a little dog with gas. Big dogs yes...but they didn't cry the way she did. they just had big bloated bellies. Even the vet couldn't believe the amount of pain she seemed to be in. The strange part was she didn't act like anything was bothering her at all. just was fine one minute and sick the next. |

| honestly I knew onions would give dogs incredibly dangerous gas...but I have never seen it firsthand! Until today that is. I didn't get an x pen because our yard is fenced #1...and #2 she is never left out there alone. I stay with her typically right next to her because i fear birds. Last night I was exhausted and sat on the picnic table talking to my mother in law when she got the mushroom...so now i am looking at x pens so i can get one before she comes home. these are the two. ... the smaller ones seems like its a little heavier duty. Any advice on which one might be better? I'm still not gonna leave her outside alone...but advice would be welcome. Petmate Exercise Pen with Door, 24 in. x 24 in., 8 Panels - Tractor Supply Co. | I like the IRIS pen. It is very stable and is easy to assemble and transport. Here is a link to the official site http://www.shopirisusa.com/pet.html that shows all of the options. I mine from Walmart.com with two extra panels. It is perfect! Last edited by chattiesmom; 09-19-2014 at 10:05 AM. |

| The vet called with an update...she is still resting comfortably. her tummy is still gurgling a lot but the gas seems to be dispersing. her blood work showed she was very slightly anemic, but nothing else was off. the vet is not concerned considering her episode this morning the slight anemia could be put off on that. she is prescribing an antibiotic to be sure theres no infection in her intestines causing the gas, continuing the tummy drops and a bland diet of i/d. I will be heading out to pick her up in just a few minutes...I will keep updated. Thanks for your prayers and support!! |

She's a hot mess right now....food and liquids all over...but she will be excused from her bath until she feels better. i/d for the next two weeks with probiotic powder. Antibiotics for five days. And tummy drops for the next two to three days. Thanks everyone for your concern and nice support!! I will keep everyone posted.....please everyone.....WATCH OUT FOR MUSHROOMS!!! |
