Donating YT 500 Club Member | Taycie went to the Ophthalmologist today About a month ago I took Taycie in to our general vet for some thick white discharge. She prescribed Neo/Poly dex drops and that was that. We did the drops but I was not liking the look of her eyes.. It was working.. but she still get nasty discharge from time to time. Eyes are something I don't want to mess with. I decided to follow my gut and have an Ophthalmologist give us a second look. She did a tear test first. At her ripe old age of 3 she should be in the 30 range. She is only at 18. She is being diagnosed for borderline dry eye. She then put a Florescent Stain in her eye and did the exam. Along with dry eye and and exam she has swollen eyelids. She diagnosed her Blepharitis. She explained Blepharitis to be very itchy just like a child scratching a mosquito bite which can make it more inflamed and itchy. She also has Mineralized Kertophathy in her right eye which is Mineral deposits on the cornea. This will not effect her vision at all but it does also make things itchy. Unfortunately it isn't reversible. To the naked eye, I can't see anything. She currently is on a steroid ointment for the inflammation and drops to help stimulate better tear production. We follow this regimen for 4 weeks and she will go back in for a recheck.. If things don't look better she is sending us to a Vet Derm.. because she said this is caused due to seasonal allergies. So glad I got my girl in. I am loving the quality of care specialty hospitals offer. Hoping she will get some relief soon. Can't imagine how itchy she must be.

| Taycie is so blessed to have such a wonderful, pro-active mommie taking care of and looking out for her. Poor Tayce - she's had a bad time of it, confirming that trouble never seems to come alone - always brings a sibling or two. Here's hoping the meds help her and can clear those sweet eyes up. She has the loveliest eyes. I'm praying this little girl is better soon.

| Taycie is the new generation of Daisy. I know your challenges with her and am sorry she has yet another issue to manage but I'm glad she has you. You've really taken your responsibility for her seriously and I'm impressed. I am wondering if Taycie could tolerate omega 3s added to her diet.

| You are such a great mom to Taycie. I hope the meds will help her eyes and that she won't need to see the derm. Cathy mentioned Omega 3s -- I believe they have helped Max, but he doesn't have any diet restrictions to be concerned about.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I am nervous about fish anything. Mainly because in the past she would vomit and have nasty diarrhea..

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I do hope all the meds work for Taycie. It is so wonderful when we can assess specialists that can help so much with many conditions! Did the vet suggest any change in drinking water?

| Definitely not worth the risk. I wonder if there is an alternative to fish oil that would help her.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Aren't Vet Ophths just the COOLEST? I couldn't believe how thorough the exam was when I brought Wylie to one a few yrs ago for his cataract. They're pretty amazing. Btw, what did the Ophth prescribe, anything different? Wylie has dry eye and his Opth likes Optimmune -- it does wonders for Wylie's dry eye...his area around his eye is like night and day in terms of being irritated. I've had blepharities and it sorta feels like you have crap in your eyes and can't get rid of it...it's really annoying, rather than painful at all. I had to use these eyewash pads that I got from walgreens -- they work really well in case you're interested.
