| sick puppy I recently purchased a yorkshire terrier she is 11 weeks old she has been diagnosed with kennel cough and now a upper respitory infection, she has been put on antibiotics, yesterday we saw improvement and now today she seems as though she is taking a step backwards. Has anyone ever had problems if so any advice would be very welcomed, we really love this little girl and want her to get healthy soon. |

| First, contact your vet or an ER and ask for their advice. They will want to know her temp and if her cough is productive, are her breath sounds loud in her chest (listen with your ear to her chest), her current meds and how long she has been taking them. Is she lethargic? Sleepy? Taking fluids?MOST IMPORTANT!!!!! Eating? Nutrical or such? Hydration is so important and often these little guys will go down fast if NOT taking fluids..Call the breeder and ask if any of the other puppies have been sick? Did they have KC vaccine? Might not be important.... Let us know what you find out... IF YOU ARE AT ALL COCERNED, TAKE YOUR BABY TO THE VET ASAP!! |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I have to agree with Whispersmom ...If it were my baby I'd be at the vet - they can really go down fast when so little.... also ...I've READ that many respritory infections can easily turn into Pneumonia ... and you don't want that to happen !! GOOD LUCK ! |

| I am glad she is eating good. From what I have heard it can take a while for Kennel Cough to run its course.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Kennel Cough We had the same thing happen to us last January when we bought little Candi from a Texas breeder and had her flown into NY. Vet missed the kennel cough on the first days exam but after worrying all night with her coughing we went to another vet first thing in the AM. Kennel cough..Vet said it could have been from the stress of flying but when I called the breeder he had had another case. Sigh......Took almost 3 months and 3 or 4 courses of anitibiotics and finally fine. The most important thing, as everyone else here has been saying, is to be sure she stays hydrated. We also gave her Nutrical daily. Very important thing to do. This baby only weighed barely a pound and is now full grown and barely 2 pounds so it was a very frightening experience for us Be sure and watch this little baby very carefully and if you take good care of her she will be fine.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali has had it since I got her the end of August. Some days it seemed better but then other days it was just the same as when I got her. She has been on 3 rounds of antibiotics and we had 2 days last week wher she didn't cough and then it seemed bad so I took her back to the vet on Thursday and she checked her out again and said her lungs were clear and her trach was ok. She said to just watch for any signs of lethargy or not eating. Other than the cough she is fine! She also gave it to my pom who is still coughing as well. Good luck and just keep a close eye on her and have the vet check her out. Where in Illinois to you live? I live in Gurnee.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Exactly the same story with Candi. We kept her isolated in one room for over 3 months so none of the other babies would get it. Same story every time we took her to the vet and we did take her to 3-4 different vets for opinions because she was so little and we were so scared of losing her. Main thing it to make sure she eats and drinks and stays hydrated. Important to supplement with the Nutrical as well. It is nerve wracking and it is a long drawn out process before it goes away and does not appear again. Good Luck.....I hope she will be just fine as Candi is now.....

It is sad when our wee ones get ill. My Yorkie has been so very ill. We almost lost him a week ago. I do know how worried you are. I will say some prayers for you and your wee one. Heather (Canada) | |

| we ended up taking her to the vet this afternoon, thank goodness we did get someone to come in on sunday. She ended up having a 103 temp, runny nose etc... he gave her different antibiotics and 2 injections we have the vaporizer running and are keeping vaseline on her nose so all the drainage doesn't goo up. she is still eating and drinking, but mostly sleeping the vet said with the fever she would be sleeping alot. I'm hoping tomorrow that she will be better, if not we go back to the vet. this is a very frustrating illness. |

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | [B]Good thing you took her...sheesh it is a difficult call to make, especially on a weekend when it is hard to get a vet to see them. Did he say what she has ? Here is hoping she will feel much better tomorrow when the antibiotics kick in. Glad to hear she is eating and drinking though because that is the cause of most complications.
