Senior Yorkie Talker | Princess screaming in pain at night after spay surgery, help! Princess has had a hard time since she got spayed on 2/28. She's 7 months 3.2 lbs.The next day after surgery she had diarrhea for a week and the vet. placed on medication antibiotic. I gave her bland food for a week along with the medication, and then started her back on her regular food. During the day she was her playful energetic self, and all of a sudden around day 9 she started screaming in pain at night. From what I observed she would stand in her pen with her head down in pain like if she had a pinched nerve. But the next morning she would be all playful and energetic like if nothing had happened. We took away all her toys so that she would not trash them around in a frenzy and just left her with her small rubber ball that she loves to chase after. The problem continues only at night so I called the vet. who spayed her and took her in the next day 3/11 and he did a physical exam and moved around her neck and touched her all over and she didn't complain he couldn't find anything wrong with her, he did suggest that I make an appointment with her regular vet. in the same clinic. I did make another appointment for tomorrow 3/15 to have her check by her regular vet. see if she can find out what's going on. Tonight she started screaming again of pain standing with her head down and not being able to move. I held her and loved her until she was peaceful and placed her back in her pen. I'm so concerned, has anyone experienced anything like this with their baby after spaying??? I'm not going to sleep tonight cause I want to stay up and watch her in case she has another problem. Thanks in advance for your replies. Very concerned Mami |

| Poor baby I have not had Bitsy spayed yet so I can't offer any insight as to what might be wrong. If I were you I'd try and get a video with my phone if she were to do this again so I could show the vet. It might be of some help in determining what might be wrong. I'll say a prayer for you baby. Hope all goes well

| It deff sounds like a neck issue. I would have her x-rayed for sure . There have been others on YT whos babies had symptoms similar & had AAI so try to keep her as calm as possible until her appt. No toys & no jumping around. Did your baby have vaccinations recently ? |

No Longer a Member | I agree, try to take a video of it, sometimes it helps the vet to see what exactly is happening, esp. if she doesn't do it while at the vets. I hope she gets better, it doesn't sound pleasant at all |

| Also, does she try to respond to you if you say her name while she is screaming ? if not she could be having a seizure. Yes a video would be very helpful for the vet to see as she will probably not do it at the vet. I'll be praying your little one will be OK. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Princess screaming in pain at night after spay surgery, Help! Thank you all so much for your quick replies! Princess had her rabies shot on 2/4 with no problems. She got spayed on 2/28 microchiped and had three teeth pulled. What has me confused and concerned is that during the day she is palyful and energetic, but when she lays down at night to sleep she awakens screaming of pain standing up with her head in a downward fashion and screams in pain when I touch her or pick her up. Right now I placed her in her pen wrapped in her blankets and she hasn't moved. I'm checking her every now and then to see if she is breathing. I've been researching the internet on signs of pinched nerve in Yorkies and some say MRI's, Xrays and some say acupuncher. I'm praying that she'll be able to rest and sleep since I know at 7 months they still need a lot of sleep. Before her surgery she was this power house of energy and slept thru the night very well. Well tomorrow is another day, I plan to stay up and watch over her. Pls put her in your prays! Many thanks again. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Princess screaming in pain at night after spay surgery, Help! Thank you for your replies and prayers! Princess had another episode and I took a pic with my cell phone but forgot to turn on the lights to take the pic. Anyway, I had her in my lap for a while and she wanted to go potty and walked over to the bathroom and did pee (sorry for being so graphic). Then I placed her in her pen to see if she can get some sleep. After 30 years my husband and I decide to adopt a Yorkie as our companion, she was 5 months old when we got her from a breeder, she's such a blessing and we love her very much. |

| If your vet has not yet done an xray I would insist upon it. I would not take her for any alternative treatment anywhere until that is done. Usually there are symptoms other than pain with AAI, but I still would want my pup checked for it if that kind of pain was being exhibited. I don't want to alarm you...just think it is perhaps something that should be checked into. Maybe you could call your vet and ask about it...what he thinks?

| Today is the appointment with your vet? Please insist on an xray today. I'll be praying for you and Princess, and watching for your update after you see the vet. Hugs for little Princess, Bonny

| I highly doubt her pain is from her spay at almost 2 weeks out. As previously suggested I would make sure to get an Xray today. Try to to jump to worse case scenarios with doing too much internet research. Please keep us updated after your visit.
