| Shaking Head My little Josie has been doing the head shaking thing. I took her to the groomer today (who is in my vet's office) and for the vet to check out her ears. Vet tested her ears and said they can-not find anything wrong. Does anyone have any idea of why she is doing this? She did this when I first got her from the breeder @ 12 weeks old and vet said she had ear mites. We treated those. She is 14 months old now and just started this. I have looked myself in her ears since I knew what the ear mite junk looked like and did not see anything myself so I thought infection. Vet said no. And I do bath them and wipe their ears out in between grooming. Could this just be a habit, ear tickling, or something else I should look for? Also I have notice her one ear felt warm and I told vet this morning that. |

I knew I was going to take her to the vet so I went ahead and had her groomed too. I always ask the groomer to cut the hair and not pluck or pull. | |

| Do you have any ear wash ? You can use that for a couple of days & see how that works. Sometimes the have a strand of hair that was missed on exam or a bit of wax witch is normal but sometimes is tickling them. The ear wash will take care of either of those. I prefer non-alcoholic based ear wash as the alcohol can be very drying to the ear canal. |

| The thing with the mites........ I couldn't figure out how she would have them anyway. My house is clean (OCD here), their beds and linens are cleaned weekly. They don't go out much and no other animals in my house or have they come in contact with. |

| I think any animals that she might come in contact with can transfer them but I don't know if they have to actually touch one another or a critter just leaves them in the grass and leaves or what. |

| Is the shaking from side to side? Is that why you think it's ear related?

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | One of my dogs picked up ear mites from the groomers. But if you aren't seeing the dark droppings, chances are it isn't that. How long after the grooming did she start with the head shaking? Is it possible that she got water down deep in her ear that she's still trying to work out?

| They can get itchy all over with allergies. A lot of times it's the paws and ears. So if there is nothing wrong on physical exam, I'd have to wonder if this is the problem. Mites (other than ear mites) would be a concern also, esp. if it's more on the ear flap that this pup is bothered by. I suppose some vets would do a skin scraping in this case to make sure.
