| Runt not eating much My puppies are 2 weeks old and the runt is about one third of the size as the others. Last tuesday I took him to the vet because he wasn't gaining hardly any weight and got esbalic to feed him, he seemed to be doing better but today doesn't act like he wants to eat. When I tried to force it he acted like I was choking him. I had to go to work husband said he wouldn't eat for him either. |

| You also need to see if the male well nurse off mom, take the others off and let him go first. If he continues not eating, you need to take him to the vet asap. They may want you to tube feed, and show you how.

| I have no advice since I've never had a puppy that young! I go to the vet immediately when my adults don't eat so I'd probably do that with your pups. I hope they are ok!

| there may be underlying issues with this little guy first make sure he is staying very warm there is a good home made formula on here that works very well for tiny ones the choking may be a sign that he is not warm enough to swallow are you using nuri drops on him to help with his energy level has he been checked for a cleft palate? what was his birth weight compared to the others and what is the difference now? did the vet sub q him by chance and give him the extra fluid to maybe get him over the hump i agree try letting him nurse off of mom alone even if you must hold him on so he can get a full tummy keeping a very small puppy going can be very hard at times and very tiresome is some one there 24/7 with him to make sure he is eating and potting evey 2 hours? these little one some times require 24 hour care by the breeder if they are not thriving there is also a liver liquid rescue on her as well that has help bring a puppy back around Recipe for fading or weak puppy...from what Ive been told it is a true life saver!! Thought this worth passing on...print and kept for safe keeping! Beef Liver Remedy For Fading Puppies Large piece of Beef Liver - boil slowly in a small amount of water (5 minutes or until the blood comes out). Let cool-drain the liquid ONLY; 4 drops into a dropper and feed the weak puppy. First dosage every 2 hours for 12 hours, then every 4 hours. Continue for however long needed until the puppy is thriving on its own. Don't feed or use the liver itself, it is far too rich; use only the liquid hope this helps |

Not sure how experienced you are with hand feeding pups so here's a couple of basics. Never feed a chilled pup and hold the pup upright while feeding. Not sure what you're using, but I always use an eye dropper. It's much easier to control the flow and the pup has less chance of aspirating. A pup needs to be burped and diapered after feeding. At this age, it needs to eat every 2 hours. The recommended amount is 1 cc per ounce of body weight at each feeding. The above can be modified a little. If the pup is skinny and doesn't have much appetite, you could feed less, but feed more often. You should weigh him twice daily and look for a little gain. The beef liver broth is good to use, too, and also the nutri-drops as was recommended earlier. A word of caution on the nutri-drops.....it is a fairly potent formula so only a drop should be used per dose on such a small one. They need the nutrition but the digestive system is very delicate on these babies. It is VERY important that this baby is fed around the clock. It cannot miss any meals. That could mean living on naps or having someone help you until he is thriving. Best of luck.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Goats milk is the best supplement. Make sure you pull the others off first and let it try to nurse as long as it wants. Try an eye dropper to feed it is time consuming but worth it. Check with your vet another option is tube feeding while scarey for some to do it really is easy. I have saved several pups tube feeding.
