| Help Bucky has Anal Abcess Hi, Just got back from vet and Bucky has a anal gland abscess. They lanced it and flushed it twice. He has severe bruising from it also. My question is the meds. He is on 1/2 tab Clavamox twice a day and Rimadyl 1/4 tab once a day for pain. He is 5 lbs. Does anyone have experience with these meds????? |

| Ohhh poor baby! I hope he feels better soon. What is the strength of the meds he was given? Why are you concerned about this? Is your pup acting okay... or is something wrong?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Sorry to hear. Nikki my 15 year old I recently took in has one right now. I noticed it last Thursday and had never had experience with this before. I took him to my vet Friday and they flushed his anal glands twice and instilled an antibiotic in there. He is on 1/2 tab of Baytril and Metacam for pain. It is just starting to look better. He goes in tomorrow for a follow up. He gave no signs of having any problems so I didn't know his glans were full. I will have to watch him from know on. I have had my dogs on Clavamox for various infections and they did fine on it. I never had any on Rimadyl though. I hope your little guy heals fast.

| Just talked with Vet and she changed the pain med to Tramadol. I guess I just got scared reading about the Rimadyl. I feel so bad for him. He seems like he is in alot of discomfort. I am putting warm cloths on his behind every hour or so. I am shocked how fast something like this acts up so fast????? I was just reading about this and was so thankful we have never had this problem. |

| Sometimes diet can be a factor with anal glands. Maybe discuss this with your vet. He may need more fiber to help keep things working properly. I think too some things may be developemental. My first Yorkie had two anal gland surgeries in 6 months when she was 3 or 4 years old, then never had another problem. PeekA Boo had 3 bouts of HGE within a year and a half, between ages 4 and 5 years, and none since. He's 13 years old now.
