Sometimes diet can be a factor with anal glands. Maybe discuss this with your vet. He may need more fiber to help keep things working properly.

I think too some things may be developemental. My first Yorkie had two anal gland surgeries in 6 months when she was 3 or 4 years old, then never had another problem.

PeekA Boo had 3 bouts of HGE within a year and a half, between ages 4 and 5 years, and none since. He's 13 years old now.
